LED taillight help
LED taillight help
I am in the market for some LED taillights. Unfortunately, I no longer own my RX-7 but I do know the strength of the RX7club's collective knowledge so, please try to help me out.
I want a simple LED layout of several stacked rows of 10mm LEDs. I know this would have to be a custom job and if anyone has any knowledge of how to do this (skills and equipment) or where I can go, let me know.
I have included several links and pics(what I am looking for) to help in the discussion.

Here is one that will work with the RX-7 crowd.
Lastly, here is a pic of the car it will be going on.
Thanks in advance,
Trav

Although I can't comment on the prices, I have seen the workmanship from the cats at clearcorners.com and was fairly impressed. That's assuming you want to go the "pay someone else" route. However you go at it, good luck!

Don't you worry about the joking. I will be launching a massive offensive strike soon. Oh yes, very offensive.

The tricky part as far as I know isn't the LEDs or the board to solder onto.
It's the tiny parabolic reflectors needed to diffuse... and disperse the beam.... to make it appear brighter yet make it less unidirectional... by design LEDs usually have a direction which they are the brightest, and drop off fairly fast dpending on the angle of incidence....
I think car makers are using a lower intensity LED, that is less directional, and therefore need the reflectors to get the intnesity value that they need to be DOT legal....
^^^^^^^^ All of that is pure speculation, I used to be employed by a motion capture company, and was involved in some research on LED technology, and how to intensify a beam that had to reach 80' off a reflector (2X40') and still retun a descent amount of visible or near IR Light... One trick we used that turned out magrinally well was the stuff you stick on the bottom flouresecnt light boxes in elevators to disperse the light evenly.... if you look at them they have tiny pyramids on them that disperse light evenly....
