Yea I finally got a rear rebar in last week and now have lights. That was the first thing I looked at and cleaned. They had overspray on them so I mixed some acetone and water and cleaned that off. Then went over them with some aluminum mag polish and they look brand spankin new. Ordering some lights tomorrow.

Slightly off topic, but the best product I've found for removing the brown rotary film on your rear bumper (and I do it a lot, running pre-mix, synthetic, and open exhaust for track days) is Fantastic brand kitchen cleaner. Spray it on while you're washing your car, sponge the shmutz right off. It does, however, strip wax, so you'll need to reapply to the bumper.

I said f*** it and went ahead and ordered the license plate lamps bulbs, reverse lamp bulb, and rear trunk festoon. I'll take some pics when I get them installed.

That's a good move. I just got back in late last night from picking up the car. Thought of you when I grabbed my bag out of the trunk and saw the festoon light. It's extremely bright and you will be pleased. The other bulbs (license and reverse) are very bright also so no worries.

Post up the pics when you can.

Got my bulbs in today and put them in already. The 5 LED 194's for the license plate lamps are bright as hell. I took some pictures of them during the day time but just tried uploading them to my computer and iTunes erased them. Either way, they are bright and visible during the day. I'm going to experiment with removing the metal light director piece that is in the lamp housing to see how much more lighting I get out of it or if I like the direction of the lighting without it.

I haven't checked out the reverse lamps yet. Can't wait though.

My trunk festoon light bulb must be out. Because the original bulb wasn't working and now the LED isn't either. I have to diagnose this and find out how to fix it. If anyone has any troubleshooting ideas, I'm all ears before I start my searches.

Thumbs up

Here are some pics of the reverse lights and license plate LED's during the daytime. Pardon the gay "A State of Vision" Florida plate. I'm getting a regular Florida plate in a few days and a Carbon Fiber frame to set off the rear of the car.

They look much "whiter" in person. Very Lexus or Audi.

Btw, these are the same reverse lights David recommended and also same ones Rich (Goodfella) has on his car. Just wanting to put some more pics up to show the results

I'll take some night time shots in a few hours

Those look great and I am glad you like them. Don't have any advice on the festoon bulb except to check it to see if it is getting power. When you get it to work you will like it a lot.

sorry for the sized. it shows that I shrunk them but for some reason they aren't changing on here.

Also both the license plate lights and the reverse lights aren't that bright in person. However, they do light up a greater distance than stock bulbs. It is a nice pure white as well. The lighting is very crisp. With my 20% tint in the rear I can see more with these I think. I'm going to have to drive around more and back up in different locations to fully confirm that. I think I won't be backing up anymore with my fingers crossed and hoping for the best anymore. I'd rather have a bit less lighting on the license plate lamps but I can always just cover up some of the SMDs to fix that

I'm going to check the festoon too see if it's getting power. If not I'm going to start the searching and electrical troubleshooting. Hopefully it is just a fuse.

DMoneyRX-7: It might be those must be new, because I've seen some horrific looking plates in Florida, as well as every hole in the wall has a plate from community colleges, to Gator Land, it seems... I used to live there, not that California is any better, I long for the simplicity of the 1920-1930's where plates were two colors one for the font, and one for the background...

I actually got these to fit with just a tiny amount of dremeling, or better yet, use a sharp box cutter knife.

The widest part of them is square, so if you line up the edges of the square with the already existing wide spots for the bulb housing retention. All you need to do is add one notch on one side and you can slip the leds in. They work very well BTW.

There were no RX7s in the 1920-1930s. It may have been simpler, but it wasn't better.

So do they still twist in properly with this mod? If so, I may go this route as these are the only LEDs I have that I don't like.

Yep, they still work, and you can go back if you want. They seal fine and everything. If you take the bulb out of the housing you will see there is a central hole with 2 notches on the sides for the bulb socket retention. what you want to do is make about a 1mm v notch 90 degrees from each of those notches. That allows the bulb to slide in, but not affect anything else.

Just wanted to bump this thread up to a link on my CORRECT way to mod your turn signals for LED's - no resistor boxes!

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/led-turn-signals-mod-your-flashers-right-way-943516/

The writeup is for an FD, but should work on an FC as well, the flashers are VERY similar if not identical.

BTW, this thread has been SUPER helpful for me going LED on my car!

I just installed the running lights and license plate lights, and they're awesome.

How is the brightness of the tail lights, as compared to incandescent style bulbs?

Glad they worked out. As for the tail lights, try these:

http://superlumination.com/1156_1157.htm

7 Watt Eagle EYE SMT Tower
14x(.5) watt High Powered Wide Angle SMT LEDS
These Bulbs have Advanced Surface Mount Technology LEDS + Advanced Patented Circuitry
12 high powered SMT side facing LEDS - 2 high powered SMT forward facing LEDS
Only 24mm diameter x 52mm overall - fits all stock housings

They are $25 per bulb, but are about 150% brighter than the OEM bulbs. I have tested them with a light meter on one of my LED retrofit projects. You will like them a lot I believe. Make sure to get the red 1157 models for the brake lights. The 1156s amber ones are for the turn signals.

I have tried a bunch of LEDs for the taillights, from the above to ones that are a lot less. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to the taillights. Stay way from anything that has a lot of small LEDs like most of the other ones as they just aren't bright enough. You also need a bulb that fires up as well as on the sides so it will illuminate the entire housing area.
