You're probably right...but keep in mind that's *MOST.*

I have the VerticalDoors.com kit, I've had it for hmmm over 6 months, and have had absolutely NO problems w/ leaks etc. In fact, one of the things I commented about earlier in this thread was that the stock doors airtight seal is RETAINED w/ the VerticalDoors.com kit - assuming the doors are installed properly (professional installation). Here's my old post:

While I've always had that airtight seal issue as well before I got the lambo doors put on, I don't think I ever really consciously made a note of it until you guys mentioned this. I initially thought maybe the doors were just really heavy and you had to slam them. But indeed, you're right, it's the whole airtight seal thing.

The bad news is you still have this problem w/ the VD doors I have. Since I almost never take my car out in weather other than bright and sunny, I have rarely had to close the doors w/ the windows up. But the last couple of times I got home a little late and it was cold at night, and my windows were up. And the other day, it was raining (stupid move) and so the windows were up as well. I had trouble closing the doors again. I had to open and slam 'em shut. Naturally, it takes a lot of effort. And I'd say prob. slightly more than stock -- simply for the reason that the distance with which you have to close the door is less (since the doors don't open laterally as much as stock obviously), so you gain less momentum in the swing, requiring you to input greater force to close it completely (I think that makes sense via physics laws haha)

The good news is, that's telling you the OEM seal hasn't be compromised by the hinge's mechanism. But I mean hey, for me, it's no biggie. It didn't improve the situation, nor did it make it worse. It left it as is, and I'm basically gonna continue to close the doors w/ the windows up 99% of the time.

Hope that answers your question w/ respect to the VD kit.

~Ramy
Just a final comment...every kit out there that I know of uses the stock locking mechanism, meaning when all is said and done, the door MUST close laterally like stock. How far out it opens varies, but the doors come down, then swing inward to close. That right there should tell you all of the kits *SHOULD* retain the stock airtight seal, since the manner in which the door is closing hasn't changed at all. The ONLY way you'd have any change in this is if the door is not aligned properly, and is thus not being shut correctly (or completely for that matter). That can only occur from 1) a poorly fitting kit, 2) poor installation, or 3) a combination of 1 and 2.

Cliff Notes for ya (the best I can do):

- As of today, I haven't heard of anything from VLS regarding their doorkit. I don't know if they ever released it for the FD (minus the prototype on Jay's car), and I haven't heard of anyone else w/ that door kit on an RX7.

- The VerticalDoors.com kit is the only kit that I know of that's tried and tested on FDs. I was the first, Noel shortly after, and as of today, there are a couple of FDs here and there that have the kit as well. Nine months strong, and no probs. whatsoever (thank God lol)

- There are a couple of other DIY kits as well as the Decah & Autolock universal kits out there, all of which I'd strongly suggest staying away from.

- I see you're in the DC Metro area. I'm in Northern VA. If you wanna check out the doors sometime, PM me, and we can meet up.

So would a whole host of other "mods" ppl do to their car, like putting on heavier rims, painting the car non-stock colors (or you could say painting the car at all), any "spirit r" typa stuff, restitching of seats, efini emblems, practically all body parts, FMICs for ppl who don't drag, lowered cars for people who don't race or track, polishing engine bay parts, blah blah blah I certainly hope a hater like yourself has a bone stock FD w/ absolutely NO personality, and NOTHING that isn't *absolutely essential*....

First of all this is not a thread about other "mods", this is a thread about Lambo doors, so stop wasting bandwidth...Oh...I see, you're just starving for attention and don't even realize it!

There was no need to soil your panties, it was just an opinion.

While that's what you expect, ppl that know me know I personally don't like getting lots of attention, but I don't mind people enjoying my car, since that's a reflection of my taste... It's the highest compliment IMO. To me, cars are works of art (or at least they can be).

I'm not soiling anything...but there's no need to follow me around calling out "RICE!" and "starving for attention" after any posts dealing w/ my car. As much as I'd love to just say "oh yea? lemme see your car...see how much YOU'VE put into it," that's childish, and at the end of the day, to each his own. Just keep your *opinions* to a minimum when you don't even know what my mods list is -- esp. before you go calling "rice."

Didn’t you initiate this discussion by responding to my comment? Re-examine post #330 I was agreeing to a remark made by "BLKTOPTRVL."

Then on post #331 you began your irrelevant rant.

Just more nonsense.

Basically, by posting this you are already asking this question, just by stating “that’s childish” at the end, is still a reflection of your immature nature. You just think it is a safeguard to pretend that this is what a fool would think. i.e. you.

If we were in a crowded room and I said someone’s name that wasn’t yours would you respond to me then?
Obviously you went into great depth to prove my comment doesn’t pertain to you, so why are you offended by it? And don’t bother answering this question because we all know the answer to it but I think perhaps you should take some time to ponder why you made such a great ordeal over such a minor comment.

C'mon...who we kidding here? The only guy on the thread w/ the doors, and you're trying to tell me your comment had no relevance to me?

And then you began teh most ignorant process known to man...Name calling.
Oh and calling ppl's cars "rice" isn't labeling (which is essentially the same thing as name calling)?? Definitely not imature tho, right?

Basically, by posting this you are already asking this question, just by stating “that’s childish” at the end, is still a reflection of your immature nature. You just think it is a safeguard to pretend that this is what a fool would think. i.e. you.
Here's the ultimate irony. You say this about MY post, when in YOUR original post, you basically skipped around putting my name in it, given I'm the ONLY PERSON on the thread w/ the doors... there's no diff whatsoever between what you said and if you specifically said "yea FDNewbie is obviously craving attention." But of course, again, when YOU do it, it's okay, right? It's not immature then, right?

but I think perhaps you should take some time to ponder why you made such a great ordeal over such a minor comment.
I KNOW why I jumped over your comment, cuz frankly I get PISSED at people being ignorant by calling anything that's not to their specific taste rice. It's immature labeling, and I'm sitting here trying to figure out how on earth *YOU'RE* passing judgement on FDs, given *YOU JUST GOT ONE* a month ago... WTF? What the hell do you know?

Or how bout that you have an attitude problem, and a super-ego judgement complex, kinda like when you jumped on Mike outta the blue for AGREEING w/ you??

I simply don't like your attitude, and that's the whole of it man. I don't expect newbies from a MONTH AGO to go on spewing their mouth @ other forum members acting like they know it all and know how it should be. Shut up, be respectful, and maybe...just maybe after you lose your training wheels you can start offering intelligent opinions where they're warranted. Until then, stop wasting our freaking time...

Why so much money for the kit ?? I'm sure it's bought/made for wayYy less if its made out of the USA. I've been to DECAH in Ontario CA and seen the kit. It does not look like its worth $1900. And why no group buys ? Busy or not, you'll get your money. Hassle free or not, thats business. Or how about wholesale ?? I own a business. Is there gonna be a MANDATORY buy in of some sort ?? I'm pretty sure you won't resale me just one kit for a company owned car would they? If i remember right, the decah kit is all mechanical, no electrical componets. It was a big squarish looking box with shock power steroids on the inside to lift the doors.

The bottom line was, one company made it before everyone else, and so in the absence of competition, they set prices as high as they pleased, and ppl who wanted it badly enough bought it. Early prices were as high as $2500 my man. Then, as competition grew (other companies developed their own kits), prices dropped. I believe you can get the VerticalDoors.com kit now for as low as $1250 if I heard correctly. Is that a fair price given the materials it costs to make? No. But it DOES have a lot of R&D involved, plus pricing according to market demand.

Truthfully, I had no idea that when I posted this comment that someone would take their period out on me.
It is just one man’s opinion, not judgment, about vertical door lift kits. How difficult is that to comprehend?

It’s sad that you had to stoop this low. You’re 1.) focusing on a reply that has no relevance to this thread and 2.) Because it’s well marketed gimmick. Once the next big door conversion craze comes along prices on those kits will drop dramatically.

On a side note, check out teh MR2 owners forum. There is alot of talk about a electronic actuation comparable to Dihedral synchro-helix door actuation.

Never said that. Noel jumped in a while back, and it only helped. But since then, no one w/ these doors has. So if you or anyone else has had experience w/ them, by all means, add to the info pool.

EDIT: Oops...you already showed how much you know about them in your original post

Again, I just don't like your attitude. I don't remember the last time I read something on the forum to the effect of "ppl who do that mod are gay..." I can swallow "that MOD is gay" but no need to get personal. Show some respect. Leave the insults and direct personal attacks aside.

Was it the same thing when you posted the big bowl of rice pic in the other thread? One should be careful with their opinions, esp. when they're directly of one's CHARACTER (referring to the "pathetic" and "starving attention" comments).

It had complete relevence. It shows your attitude and lack of respect for others, even in the face of kindness. Bottom line is, don't dish out what you can't handle. Want respect, give it - esp to someone you don't even know.

KCflyer,

what marketing gimmick?? FDnewbies just posting to share his thoughts about the door kit.. I don't think he's making money off of this.. Did you read the whole thread??

FdNewbie is a great guy.. met him in person and nice enough to share his thoughts about rx7s.. not just about the doors.. He contributes far more to the RX7 community than 90% of the people on this forum.. I personally haven't met you, but by reading some of the threads you post on this forum, you are pretty new to this (question about ecu, weird crackling noise from your 94, etc).. Try to have a better relationship with other 7 owners.. you never know when you might need help... and from who..

I see that you like to express your opinion and pissed few off already.. Just watch what you post.. Here is what Rotoboy661 posted after your comment..

Herblenny, I feel what you're saying...and thanks for the kind words. But look who's talking? You've been around for QUITE a while now, and half the forum drools over your car (Yea I'm jealous! lol).

As for KCflyer, just let it go. This is simply a case of someone not knowing when to cut his losses and let go. He's not gonna back down for "pride" issues...it's all good. With that attitude, he won't get very far on this forum anyways.

Oh and I just got your PM today (I was sick, didn't get a chance to check earlier). PMed ya back
