Kenwood Excelon DDX7015 Double DIN DVD in FD?

Has anyone tried a Kenwood Excelon DDX7015 in their FD? Crutchfield site says it doesn't fit. Just curious as I really like the fact that it's a touchscreen and fits in the Double DIN nice and clean.

You'll have to cut the support bar in the middle. Not a big deal, but have returning to stock if you ever decide to do so!

all you would need to return to stock is to purchase another plastic A/C panel and put it on. You can get them on the forum for about $50.

It'll work...hope you don't care about the quality of navigation.

Oh, you'll need a custom bezel too, since double din is just slightly smaller than our two-din openings.

I disagree .... the AC panel has no horizontal bar in it. The bar is located in the dash behind the AC panel. You would have to reinvent that piece or buy a new dash.

I agree with this (since I've cut out and "reinvented" the piece several times). The backing is part of the dash that goes behind everything that snaps onto the front. If you're careful, it's very easy to reglue it, or what I ended up doing for my setup was just putting a piece of wood the same thickness between the two single din units i have. It keeps them spaced, and isn't seen, which is all i wanted.

good point! sorry about the misinformation.

However, if you do decide to go single DIN again, when you install a new aftermarket stereo, shouldnt the stereo cage just clip into the sides of the dash, therefore creating an artificial seperation?

I don't care at all about the navigation. I think you have to get a separate unit for that anyway.

I also think the unit comes with a wide bezel in the box, but I have no idea if it actually fits the FD. I'm sure I could make one if it didn't fit.

Mazdabation, I haven't really looked at price yet. I saw them at Crutchfield for 1.4, but also saw them on ebay. I think I would pay extra at Crutchfield or the like. CF gives you some Sirius radio stuff free and maybe some wiring etc...plus a little more piece of mind in being able to return etc.

As long as the unit basically fits (with removing of some structure) I think it's a pretty cool deck...though I'll look for one in the store before buying just to be sure the screen is ok.

Sure, but the cage clipping to the top will have to be on there pretty good otherwise any bumps or gravity will dislodge it. And the bezels better be flawlessly even, otherwise it'll be ugly. What I did was take a piece of wood, that size, painted it black, and just layed it on some double sided tape on the bottom cage (I have two din units)

I'm considering selling my 2din DVD/CD/AM/FM/Navigation/MP3 player by Rosen. I would sell it with the custom molded AC panel, as long as long as the buyer trades me their stock panel (94 or 95). Here is a pic, if anyone is interested. It is very stock looking.
