As some of you know, I used to be sponsored by VIS during my car show days. There hoods are excellent quality and very strong. No hood pins are needed b/c its is very reinforced where the latch is. The clear coat is beautiful and won't fade like alot of higher priced hoods. If you want to see a pic of mine, go to my website in my sig.
Also, 350 is pretty good price. I used to get my Civic hoods for 250 and I just picked them up. If you don't want to pay the shipping, their warehouse is in LA off the 10. Beware on ebay and crap b/c a lot of people are tryin to pass knockoffs of VIS's name. If you buy a VIS hood, there is a badge of some sort by the latch. It used to be like that anyways.
It seems a lot of you guys are interested in these. I will give the owner a call soon and see if I can set something up with a group buy. I can probably get the price down to $300. Maybe.
Also, just to let you know, the owner of VIS has a JDM Spec FD, Nissan Fairlady, and a Skyline just hanging out in his warehouse. Beautiful cars.

It looks like a nice hood, but if it isn't lighter (which is unlikely considering the stock FD hood is aluminum) and doesn't have vents, it doesn't improve function for the money spent. They sound like the price is very good, but it would need vents for me to buy it.
I'm not knocking it, but I hope this post might encourage anyone who has posted negatively to be more specific about what they don't like about the hood. For me, it isn't worth anything if the only difference versus the stock hood is aesthetic.
That sounds like a good deal if VIS would add some vents.

There is a Knight Sports knockoff that keeps popping up on Ebay...I THINK it is also VIS. Its also a bit more money, but it looks pretty good in the pictures. Any quality feedback on this one?
The "OEM" style VIS hood makes even less sense if you're one of those people who think hoods should be painted, carbon fiber construction or not (I'm one of those people).

The KS VIS hood is called the "Invader" I believe. And it should be the same price for either of them.
My car is in the shop right now, so once it's out I will just drive to the warehouse and ask him in person. Also, I want to see his JDM FD

Eddie, as a non-VIS owner would you provide your impression on my recently install hood? Might help someone make an objective decision.
I'll provide more details once I return from this underway period.
Max to give priority to your question, I have the VIS KS and it's marginally LIGHTER than the stock hood.

Sure Carlos.
I have the CF Scoot hood from Rotary Extreme and had a chance to view the VIS hood on Carlos' car last weekend. I have to admit it was hard to focus on the hood with all the other goodies he had going on but here are my impressions:
Quality: This hood was very well done, rolled edges were smooth and the lay of the CF was without error that I could see. Deep gloss on the hood and it was smooth all over. I don't think you saved much weight over the stock hood however the hood seemed more secure in the latch area than my Scoot hood. I think my Scoot hood might weigh a little less though. (What..maybe a pound?)
Fit: I saw that there was a minor gap on the left side (?) but not too bad, smaller than my Scoot hood gap. On closing the hood it appeared that the VIS hood mated better with the latch with no need to really push down. Not the case with my Scoot hood.
Don't get me wrong. I love my Scoot hood and I think Chuck did an excellent job making it.
For the money, the VIS is a VERY good deal. If VIS made a scoot replica I would have snatched it up in a second.
Here's to ya Carlos...I wanna ride sometime.

I want to add that after seeing the quality of the VIS hood, a couple of Gainesville guys who were not thinking of an aftemarket hood are now seriously considering it. The price is right and if you get a group buy going it would be even better.
You are bound to get flaws with any CF hood just from custom hand fab work but VIS does a great job minimizing them so they are not really much of a factor at all.

I concur COMPLETELY with your assessment, Brotha Man.
As for a ride, if you do the G'ville picnic sometime in mid to late October, you've got first dibs. Hope to have it well broken in and tuned by then.

VIS hoods WERE worthless. They ARE NOT anymore. I had an old one on an older car. They use to be made like crap, now they are rediculous. I wouldnt buy anything else. I have seen dozens in the last couple months. They have NO fitment issues. In reguards to if they are lighter, they are extremely light, but so is our stock hood, so its not a big difference.
I dont use hood pins on mine (dual vented VIS cf) either. The latch construction is superb and very strong, and there is almost no wind pulling up on it. If you wanted the extra safety and looks, id do it. I drove around with mine (no hood pins) with no front bumper or headlights for a week or two. I also had it up to 130 a couple times during that week. It held extremely strong even with enourmous amount of wing underneith it. I wouldnt do that again, but i was just curious to see if it would hold.

After going to SS for the 4th time, I can say I've seen quite a few aftermarket hoods, and I'd say only about 5% of them fit as well as stock. This has nothing to do with VIS because I never made a note of which ones do and don't fit well, but my main question is, why do so many aftermarket hoods leave such a big gap between the bumper and hood (and sometimes also between the headlight and hood)? This looks horrible and almost all of them do it. The stock hood literally touches the rubber grommet lining the bumper and this is the way all hoods should fit. Is it a matter of poor installation or what? It seems like it would be easy just to add a few more mm to the front of the hood and close the gap (shrugs).

The molds that the companies pull the hoods out of are probably getting old and aren't producing them the same anymore. There are ways to improve the fitment of them. But in my opinion, every manufacturer has this problem. Even the 1000 dollar hoods have the same gaps often times. IMO VIS still makes the best hoods for under 800 bucks and they are only 400 bucks.

I don't know about hoods...but I bought my sides there.
And the guy hooked me up (cash of course).
They fit perfectly never had any problems. 2 years later they still look great.
