does the 99 style j-spec wing use the same mounting points as our US spec 3rd gen wings?

I'm told by people who have considered changing from the r-1 wing to the 99-spec, and they have all told me that the outer holes get covered (the ones near the edge), but the inner ones (between where the center tailight section is & the glass) do not.

Hope that description made some sense & helps

How about this question....is there anywhere to but the 99 spec wing not-painted. Seeing that my car will not eb a factory Mazda color when I get it painted I would then have to have the wing sanded, primed, etc. instead of coming partially prepped.

Buy it new from any of the shops that sell it & it will come non-painted.

The two holes that will be visible will be the inner front holes. Also you may have the outline from your old wing visible (like in my pic). You will reuse the other stock holes, and will have to drill 2 new holes for the 99+ wing.

Mild7 has the RB type 2. He tells me that it's permanently part of the car now... It was affixed with heavy-duty double sided tape & used the 2 outer screws (at the very least). The whole center section is stuck on tightly.
I'll get him to chime in if need be....

If you buy a painted wing get a white one. It will be easier to repaint for your car. In fact it would probably be a lot easier to paint than an unpainted one.

I have confirmed with Mild7 that his RB does indeed cover up ALL the holes. It's not like the 99-spec where there are 2 big "chunks" that attach to the rear (it's just 1 big piece). It goes all the way to ~ 1" of the rear wiper, & follows the shape of the rear hatch molding
