I want to make stuff..

Like the title says, I want to learn how to make interior parts out of fiberglass or carbon fiber, or anything like that. I have never tried anything along those lines before. I just want to learn something new, and I need a hobby. Anyone know any good resources or tutorials and things like that?

I can usually look at how something is done and learn it pretty quick. I pretty much just want to be able to make plates and covers. Eventually I want to be good enough to re-make my dash with fiber or something.

Anyone who can help it would be greatly appreciated.

heres a fiberglassing tutorial that i found a while ago... http://web.njit.edu/~cas1383/proj/Glassing1/index.htm
if you get good at fiberglassing, carbon fiber is basically the same idea just its harder to have it look good... if you start making cf interior parts sign me up though!

Thanks a lot man. I will probably just start out messing around with speaker enclosures. I have a few ideas that i'm going to test on my '85 gsl-se. Once I figure out FG i will mess around with CF. I will probably just do simple stuff at first, obviously, I just want to figure out how to get it to shape out like I want and how to keep out the airbubbles and stuff and get it smooth.

I think with CF you have to be pretty damned good and get it smooth the first run, someone was saying once you sand it it looks like ****, but i don't know yet. I will let you know how it turns out.

You could wet sandit then buff it and you would have very smooth slikand shiny.

With CF you just need to throw on a couple extra coats of resin after you lay the CF. Curved parts are really tricky, but if it's flat, you can spread it on kind of thick and let gravity help you out by smoothing the resin out for you and taking out the brush strokes. If you get it right (has a lot to do with the piece you're doing) you won't even have to sand... start buffing away.

Glass is much more forgiving. Go here http://www.glassmanscustomforum.com/ for some great information. Glassman has DVD's for sale too that take you through step by step. I've never bought the DVD's because I was pretty much relying on experience, but I have gotten some great tips, pointers, and ideas from others on the site.

Here's my custom sub box I built for my FD. It has a resemblance of instructions (skipping a few boring steps here and there). Let me know if you have any questions about it as you get started and I'd be happy to help out. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...0&page=1&pp=15
