Hey guys just wanted to know what you think is a good looking headunit? I like the double din screen ones but they dont fit according to crutchfied. If i get single din one i would prefer it to have an volume **** not an up/down button(s). so let me know what you guys like

I like alpine; however, I don't think they meet your "audio" requirements. The new alpines w/ the ipod connectors are nice. Just put one in my wife's ford focus. Very nice.

I just installed this in my daily driver:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ony-_-82105113

The specs aren't anything out of this world, but it's inexpensive, plays CD audio and burned MP3/WMA discs, has a front aux input, and lets you stream bluetooth audio from your mobile device. The hand's-free is nice too, the head unit has a built in microphone of course. The display isn't very good (just one line of scrolling text), but hey it's an entry level unit.

I have a double din Avic D3 in my RX7. All you need is the Pioneer double din kit and cut out the middle piece of plastic that seperates the single din slot and the storage cubby.

Any double din can look really nice in an FD. I have an alpine DVA 7996, which is looks really nice in the car. I originally had the CDA 7998 phantom face 1.3 din in the bottom with Alpines stand alone TMEM770 flip out monitor in the slot above it, that way I could have a screen and a radio separate. That is what I am going to do now, I have a TMEM990 on its way. Once of the nice parts about alpine and a few other's out there is that you can change the button back lights to amber which is pretty clost to the Stock FD colors. It blends a little bit better. If you want a double din though, get it and as it was posted before just cut the divider out.

I had a single din installed in my car with no problem. If you were to do a double din, you need to cut away plastic I believe that divides the 2 factory units.

I hate the Kenwood posted above. The screen gets totally washed out in sunlight and I don't like the controls.

When you search Crutchfield for "what fits my car" it will only show the models that are plug and play, if any modifications need to be done, it won't list the head unit or speaker in question if it requires alterations.

A double din WILL fit, you just have to dremel off that plastic bar in the center. As far as depths go, I haven't heard anyone say that any double din is too deep....but I know alot have said getting it in there and getting the harness in a position so it all will fit can be a bitch.

This is the one I recently decided to go with because I hate single dins...just look tiny and like a toy to me is all. I wanted something that was somewhat close to stock colors as far as lighting goes, and this is the best I've found so far that has all the audio options I want.....ipod,mp3,satelite, changer, etc... I was going with a kenwood double din, but like this one better.

Sometimes I wonder why I am even buying a new receiver. When my car was running, I listened to the car, not the radio.

Pioneer and Alpine have been good to me. Pioneer suits me better when it comes to me playing with subs and what not.

I prefer Eclipse headunits over pretty much everything else. I've had both a very nice Alpine and a nice Eclipse. I like the Eclipse build quality much more than the Alpine. But then again it is all about what you want in a headunit. Things like a parametric equalizer, MP3 capabilities, and 8volt pre-outs appealed to me so that's why I got the Eclipse.

The Eclipse CD4000 is a $400 unit on sale right now for $139 at www.sonicelectronix.com
I recently installed one of these in a friends car and it really is a great unit. I doubt you could do better for $140

I am thinking about getting the alpine dual din muti media reciver? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vT5vYti...W205&s=0&cc=01
They suggest that i get the infinity kappa speakers for front and rear. Does everyone power their speakers with the headunit or do you have an amp? what speakers do you guys have? and how do you like them?

purerx7, I'm really liking your setup. Does that provide navigation too or is it the same Alpine Receiver that mazadadude7 just posted (the button layout is quite similar).

Mazdadude7, Nice find I think you'll like it quite well. And usually people only use amps when power more than the stock number of speakers or are adding a sub although truthfully I don't know much about car audio so I might have it all backwards.

The Alpine you are looking at is a nice unit. Alpines new lineup is coming out soon, and they do have a W505 (I think that is the number) coming out. If you can wait you may want to look at that one, it has some really nice new features to it.

As far as the amp, if you like music, get an amp. A 40 wat x 4 external amp sounds better than any head units amp regarless of weather the head unit says (some say 60 x4, 55 x 4, 50 x 4, etc. ).

Thanks for the heads up about the new product lineup , It might be a win win situation either the new one is alot better or the old one drops alittle more in price. Right now crutchfield is running a special that you get a 5 channel amp for only 99 extra (50x5) but they are alot more expensive then the www.sonicelectronix.com price? they beat them by almost 400 on all the stuff. Thanks again for all the input guys!

Yeah, for sure. I do a lot of car audio consulting and www.sonicelectronix.com is where I point people towards. I got most of my system there.

That Alpine unit you are looking at on crutchfield is $899 but on sonic it's $649!!!
Crutchfield is a nice site and they are pretty helpful but you will pay out the *** for it.

You mentioned possibly getting infinity speakers before; can I make a suggestion? Besides my sub stage I have one pair of speakers in my IS300....just one. But they are loud enough to make your ears bleed. The best part: while your ears are bleeding they produce ZERO distortion and sound beautiful. The speakers I have are Focal 165V1's. I've one 3 sound quality competitions with them. $239 for them and you will need no rear speakers http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...al+165+V1.html
