I have tan floor carpet and i'm looking to get black carpet without paying a high price.

It's just carpet, not "Special Rotary Carpet". Run up to a carpet store and tell them you want to dye some carpet from tan to black. Ask them what to use. They will help you out.

 

you don't think dyed carpet will look gay

 

Check that thread. Someone posted pictures of their interior changed from tan by coloring the carpet.
