question on bodykits
I'm thinking about getting a bodykit but I heard that they are all made out of some fragile material and that they break easily. I see a lot of hondas who have the bottom of their cars all torn up and broken and I don't want that to happen on my car. Are bodykits really that fragile? Do any of you guys have kits that break? What's a good strong kit???

hi jane,
most aftermarket kits are fiberglass which will crack and break if you decide to go off-roading with your rx7. some of the expensive kits from japan are polyurethane which is more flexible and will 'bounce/flex' back if you scrape your car going up a driveway or something. personally, i'm not a huge fan for the japanese front ends (too wild or edgy). i would love to get the 99 front end and have a shop shave off the front license plate mount.
just avoid steep driveways and huge speed bumps and you should be ok.

Are some fiberglass parts stronger/better than others? Are the polyeutothane one's more expensive? What's are some nice kits that are good quality and have a reasonable price. Some of the kits from the store are nice but kinda pricey...plus they don't come painted either.

I think some kits are better made than others...you have alot of replica kits that have uneven surfaces, pitting, etc. on the other hand, some replica kits are nicely made (i think a forum member had a group buy on his replica kits and everyone was happy).
Polyurethanes are more expensive, but they are more durable.
I would suggest looking at the rx7 store for their kits to see what you would like. Also, what do you mean by 'reasonable price'?
Most of the kits come unpainted. The shop would most likely have to test-fit it onto your car, sand surfaces if necessary, add material if necessary, coat with primer, then paint to match your car.
Were you planning on adding sideskirts and a spoiler as well?

No kits come painted to match your car...The more "pricey" ones you see at the rx7 store or any online store for that matter are that way because they are original and not replicas. You could pick up a replica kit for much less dollars, however the fitment and quality isnt the greatest...I have the original C-West and love it..so do many others. A popular kit is the copy by rotaryextreme of the FEDD TYpe II bumper. You can PM nocab72, he has the kit.

as far as I know there is only one polyurethane kit for FD. That kit is the 99 FD kit which can't really call a aftermarket kit, since it's stock for newer(Japanese) FD. OEM stuff=expensive.
The kits make of FG/CF/Kevlar are non-flexible. Therefore it will break, if you hit any big object on the road. But it's not as easy to break as you think. Just don't go crazy and hit speed bump at highway speed, you will be fine.
Japanese kit have a lot different style. Some are wild, some are not as wild. Go to SF's Japanese Town and order this HyperREV Vol.72 MAZDA RX-7 No.4. They listed every part that is sold in Japan for the FD. It's less than $30. But it will be the best investment you make for your FD.
