Talking I Know Its Been Posted Already But Can Anyone Help Me W/the Center Speaker On My Fd??

Hi Im Not Very Familiar With The Technical Diagrams And Im Not Really Stereo Knowledgable, But My Center Speaker Isnt Working, I Have An After-market Sony Head Unit And I Dont Know Why It Doesnt Work, Its Not Blown... I Bridged A Door Speaker To It And It Works Fine... Also What Are The Yellow/black Wires For? The Speaker Possibly??? Any Info Would Help, And If Can Explain This In As Simple Language As Possible That Would Be Great!!! Thanks, Robert...

Typical car stereo's are not 5.1 they're 4.0 or Quatrophony.... most of your FM reception is stereo at best, and so are your CD's... so what most car stereos do is give you stereo imaging with a bit of delay to make the cramped car seem "roomier" kind of like the echo in a concert hall or church...

Bose designed it so that 90% of their sound came from the 4 and a bit of the "High freqencies". Typically supplied in component speakers by those small (silver dollar) sized speakers seperate from the main woofer...

So if you have component speakers and they're as high up to your ears as possible, you don't need the center... if on the other hand you had a 5.1 surround system for viewing movies, and you wanted to put a replacement 2.5" 'er there you could, allthough 2.5" speaker won't do much to deliver dialogue... (usually what the center is for)

Bottom Line: The Wires (2) are for the speaker to get sound from a crossover or an amp, that can support a 5'th speaker. The size and positioning of that speaker are intended for High Frequencies. Which can be had otherwise.

Basically..dont do anything with ur center speaker but disconnect it. It's useless when u have upgraded components and a sub. You can power it enough 2 make it usefull..

sorry dc, i kind of understood what your saying, so the yellow and black wires are for the speaker? well i knoe its pretty useless as it being a center speaker and so small, and there are 4 other speakers that drown it out... but its still there and it bothers me because it doesnt work, :/ so do i just connect those 2 wires to the speaker? thanks... robert

I had mine bridged in to one of the fronts. Other then it being something to talk about, it was useless as it did not enhance the sound. The quality of the speaker itself isn't that good and like rear fill it just filles in the gaps so to speak for a sorta surround or quadrasonic sound. You shouldn't be able to tell where the bass is and the rear speakers should be less power then the fronts or no rear speakers at all. You could do a rear fill with diamond audios 2nd crossover running on two channels. It's a nice feature if hooked up right but most music won't use the center channel. So unless you want to do 5.1 for DVD then disconect it. I'm in the process of trying to make it work with my JVC that has 5.1 surround. The only center channel amp I found is Alpine.

so is that center speaker only useful if you have 5.1 or surround sound?

^ Yes. It's a very small full range speaker. It works well for vocals. If you have a dvd system without it, you will tend to turn the volume up to hear dialog because of no center channel. If you have a center channel then the music won't over power the dialog. I'm not shure what purpose it served with the Bose setup other then to simulate surround sound with a center fill.
