If you want to paint the same color, maybe $3-4k for a good paint job. If you want a different color, add $1-2k more.

It depends on where you go, what color you used, etc...

If you are going to repaint your car Vintage Red, it's a stage 3 color, so it will be a little more expensive, not as expensive as those Kandy color paint jobs though..

You can get the car repainted anywhere from $1000-15,000. Just depends on how good of a paint job you want.

If you get one of the $1000, you can expect paint chiping within a year and a half. I've seen good paint jobs for around $2000 that have lasted 2-3 years without chipping.

Just for reference, in my area, I was quote $2700 for a repaint of Vintage Red for a very good shop. That includes window removal and all the rest for a "good" job. Personally, I would not pay over $4k for a paint job. It's just a car, and I can do better things with my money.

I can't say that about my car...it has a personality and a mind of its own. At least it sure seems like it sometimes.

Paint jobs will vary in price allot 4-7K is about normal. Allot is going to depend on the condition of your car, if you are changing colors, painting things like door jams, engine bay, and the trunk. Also is you are doing anything trick, multiple colors, flake in the clear, candy color, etc. The major cost of having a car painted is the prep work. Final product is only as good as the prep work.

You also need to consider other things like replacing old trim. After my car was painted the old Mazda trim stuck out like a sore thumb. Mazda apparently makes the trim out of solid gold; I spent close to 800 bucks replacing trim.

If you are in MD, call Greg at auto eurotec 410-836-0780. Coming soon http://www.autoeurotec.com (once I get around to making it) Great guy, great work at a good price.

What trim is it that you are talking about mkoch1?

If you have the time and the experince you can do all the prep work yourself but (no offance) I don't think you do cause if you do I don't think you would be asking this question. I've restored a few old cars (working on a '67 Camaro right now) and if you do all the prep work and take off whatever that needs to be taken off you can save a lot of money. (1k-3k) Just a thought,
Nick

My friend is getting his del sol painted nsx black which is about a 6 stage process then he is getting 3 clear coats put on. We are stripping the car before we give it to the guy so we are saving over $2k. The total cost will be around $900 for the paint and work. Once all the parts are done we will put everything back on

does anybody else have what I call "gravel guard" along the bottom of their FD? Basically it's like a texturing of the paint, I guess to make it resistant to scratches and whatnot. If you did go with a total repaint, should you leave the guard?

I went to a bunch of shops in my area inquiring about a repaint to different color.

All of them didn't care if I removed all the trim and sanded down the car to bare metal myself. They still were going to charge full price of $5000+

hey guys, thanks for the input. rx7-2jock, thats a nice paint job. i think i know why the paint costs $2500. $5k sounds insane, $3k sounds great for the money, but $1k is ideal. I just wanna spend about 1-2k. Anybody got any suggestions for color? Again, thanks guys!!

For the least expensive, paint it the exact same color or something VERY close.

Mine's gonna run me about $5K for the color change (it'll be *very* similar to RX7-2JOCK's) at a little shop up in Garland that I've seen amazing work come out of.

There's a fella down off of E. 71 in Austin that looks to have done great work, but I can't fully recommend him, as he blew us off badly. I can say that the cars coming out of his shop are beautiful though. Dunno what it'll run you, but it's in town. I'll look around for the name again.

Try searching under Austin paint shops or the like in the South forum.

Hi ennuttage,

What is the Garland shop's name? New Concept? I've got a couple of friends who want to get their cars repainted but wanted some quality work. When are you planning on getting it repainted? I would love to take a look when they are actually working on it and get finished. Are you doing any of the prepping yourself? What color is your original car? Sorry for so many questions it's hard finding a good shop that won't screw up. Laters -- Tommy

No prob. Tommy. Here goes -

The shop in Garland is called Auto Body Specialist (the came recommended by Rotary Performance, so I went with 'em).

My car actually *is* repainted. They were buffing it yesterday and should be putting it back together today and Monday (then it goes back to RP).

If you're near the Garland area, give 'em a call and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to let you take a peek. 972.276.4299. Ask for Chris.

I did absolutely no prep work (except removing the engine ).

The original color is Montego Blue, and I've had the door jambs, trunk and most of the engine bay repainted as well. I didn't have them remove any electronics in the engine bay though, for fear of gremlins when they reconnected everything.

Hope that helps...and if you see the car before the end of next week, let me know how it looks! I'm dying to find out.

Any paint job will chip whenever it is impacted by debris like gravel, small stones, etc. If the paint is turning loose on its own, now there is a problem.

And any aftermarket paint job is less durable with chipping than the OEM. Aftermarket paints are only cured in the neighborhood of 120-140 farenheit. Not necessarily baked on as at the factory when they have no interior to worry about.
