i'd say $400 to spray both sides
or 6-8 hours labor.

Some shops charge $40 an hour, some others charge as much as $80.
Depends on who you use.

Youll save money by bringing the hood to them and maybe the gas tank or headlight cover to match.

However with something that big you will have a hard time matching the rest of the car tho.

Thanks I was looking for a ball park. $400 sounds good to me.

I lost one headlight cover recently and have it ordered so when it arrives I'll take both covers and the hood in for a repaint.

I was also thinking about using some kind of sound dampener for the under side of the hood.

Also I was wondering if I could drive the car without the hood for a short distance with out risking anything??

As in drop off the hood and drive the car home.

Post pics please...

I detail professionally... you wouldn't beleive the stuff that people think can't be fixed that can... I did a car with a down to metal key scratch from end to end... afterward you couldn't ever tell it happened.

My geuss is you used too aggressive of a claybar and introduced a TON of marring into your paint, which is relatively soft...

I can help find you a very good detailer, know of two who do astounding work in your general area.

MY car's paint is pretty horrible and with a nice detail I can get it looking nice, however, the only problem is that after 2 or 3 washes the paint is back to being just as bad as before and it sucks having to continuously detail the car when each detail takes a few hours.

any tricks for this?

Similar problem. Upper panels are dull after a month or so and swirls show back up. I've gotten the best results by buffing with 3M finesse-it II finishing material and then some basic meguiars cleaner wax. I've combined the two half and half with pretty good results too. Cuts the time in half.

Mazda sells an oem part that mounts to the underside of the hood, call Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda at 888 533 3400 to order.

Drive w/out the hood, I did it recently for a few miles and it's pretty crazy how much attention you get

My guess would be that you have some type of crummy single stage paint. Maaco paint jobs that are a few years old are notorious for this, you buff them and a few weeks later they look like ****...

OR

You using a glaze type product that fills the defects in, and then when you wash it the glaze is removed and the defects show up again.

Pics would be helpful, and more knowledge on what products you are using would be helpful.

A true proper correction can really go a long way in rejuvenating a paint job...

Kistomizingkid,

My 94 garage queen has the original paint which looks great except for the faded hood, rear view mirrors, and head light covers which have those paint cracks which I'm sure nothing can help. I've done some buffing with several paint restoring products and had great results but as mentioned before it doesnt last long.
I was thinking since I have to paint my new headlight cover I might as well do the other parts.
and just wanted a ball park price for "good" work. I live in orlando so if you can suggest a good paint shop or detailer I'd be interested.

Goodfella,
So you didnt lose any vacume lines or have any other problems?
I prefer not to leave my baby alone with anyone!!!

Thx
