Hood question...Is it worth it?

OK, this local guy is selling a brand new carbon fiber hood for an FD for $275. Of course I could and would pre-fit it before purchase, but the catch is that its not vented. I know a carbon Fiber hood is pretty pointess for saving weight compared to the stock alum one. but the paint on my stock hood is fading and chipped a bit. So do you think it would be worth it?

Not unless you want to leave the hood unpainted for that "c/f look" (which I hate, personally). Otherwise, just spring to get your OEM hood repainted.

I guarantee you that a $275 c/f hood will not be high quality and will likely have flaws and not fit perfectly. Stick with the OEM.

If you're not getting a vented hood, it's not really worth the money.

C.F. hood doesn't save any weight at all really, But if you get a vented one it would be worth it. Vis Makes the KS for around 600, and it fits perfect on my car and also helps with cooling.

It really depends on what you'd rather spend your money on.

The OEM hood is light as hell anyways so a CF one isn't going to save you much money. What you could do is go find out how much it would cost to have your OEM hood repainted, depening on that cost, you can decide whether or not you want new paint or a CF hood. BUT, if you want to get the CF one painted then you have to consider that cost too. Plus, what condition is the CF hood in??

Your in the same situation that I am in.

My stock hood looks like it was keyed when the previous owner had it. Also the latch snapped off one time and left a reverse dent in the top when he slammed it. I can do the bodywork and prep to get it painted, BUT to do it right it will be A LOT more than a CF hood. You have to blend it in with atleast the front bumper and fenders. Thats around $1000 bucks.

If you have a red or MB car, it will be a lot harder than my Chaste White FD. Unless you can find a painter that can color match well, count on it costing a lot more especially if you can't do the prep work involved.

To sum it up, I will be making a trip to VIS really soon.
