HELP - Upholstering 3 Gauge Pillar - ARGH!

I have a GLOWSHIFT supplied 3 gauge pod pillar cover and, well, I can't stand the glossy, plastic-y, hardness of it.

It looks like crap when compared to the rest of my car.

I have high hopes of upholstering it, but am concerned that I will not be able to get a single contiguous piece of vinly over it.

This iw what I have done so far...
  1. bought a pair of used - (blemished) A-Pillars off ebay.
  2. bought the Glowshift 3 gauge pillar cover.
  3. Stripped the upholstery off the factory pillar from ebay
  4. cut the ends off the Glowshift pillar cover so that I could blend it into the existing stripped pillar.
  5. Used plastic weld to permanently glue the two together
  6. used black bumper repair to blend the ends back into the factory pillar
Now....

I bought some high temp, high tack spray glue (High Temp becuase DAMN these cars get hot in summer - i dont want to come back to a peeled off job one day.)

I bought some 2-way stretch vinyl in black. (Most vynil only stretches ONE direction)

Now, the stretch vinyl doesn't come with foam backing like the factory vinyl did, so using it bare would "work", but it would feel factory.

(A pet peeve of mine)

Anyway, so I covered it in a cut up sweat shirt and let that set up.

So far so good...

Now, after trying TWICE to cover this thing, I cant get it to stretch and glue at the same time.

The glue wants to set up too fast and i dont have 10 arms.
Apparently I would NEED 10 arms to get all the stretching i need to get this right.

Is anyone here a veteren of upholstering with vinyl and can give me soe suggestions?

Here are pix of what I have done so far...

no pro but maybe try in portions?

ex start from the bottom and glue... let it dry and then do the first pod.. stretch maybe 80% then lay it around it then glue then cover it...?

thats what i would try, or use clamps too

Well, i dont completely understand your reply, i get that you want me to start at the bottom first.

However, I was thinking that if i started at the top of the center pod first, stretching the material to its MAX, and then trying to keep it stretched as i covered the whole pod, then relaxed it as I got near the base, then i would have luck.

Working from the center... out to the ends.

That maneuver seems impossible though.

Remember I have to lie flat on a curved plane, (the base) and yet have bubbles of vinyl rising from it to cover the pods.

I wish i had a vaccuum table.

tehn maybe i could sck it down, adjusting it, -no glue- , and then heat it while it stayed the for a few hours, then let it cool.

THEN tried to take the resulting form and try gluing that over it all.

The question then becomes, HOW to get it to stretch out all over the pillar and STAY there so i can heat it?!

yeah im bad at explaining things...

try clamps... pre stretching, glue then cover em? section them off.. one part at a time so when the first part is cured and secured move to the next spot?
