help me before i rip my headunit out of the dash! lol

previous owner installed an entry level 7" touchscreen lcd (the motorized flip out type) , but i guess the unit was too long to fit in the slot properly, so its not in the proper cage, its just kinda sitting in the slot with no trim ring (yeah, so lame, i know).

the only thing holding it in place (as far as i can tell) is the wiring harness ..... now heres the problem.....the harness only seems to have about 2 inches of slack in it.

how the hell do i remove this thing??!?

normally once the head unit is released form its cage, you pull it out far enough to reach behind and disconnect the harness, but this harness seems to be caught up on something back there and doesnt slide out far enough to get behind it.

do i just have to rip the thing out forcibly and then replace whatever i break?

or can anyone help me with a trick to fix this?

i plan on rewiring it all anyway, with RCA's back to some new amps, so the factory harness isnt really too important.

I'm guessing you are talking about an FD? Have you taken the panel off and tried reaching to the back of the unit to see if the wires are caught up on anything? There should be plenty of slack in it to pull the unit out enough to unplug the harness.

in dash dvd players barely fit in the fd it took me a good 3 hours fitting one in.the wiring harness is probably stuck on something behind the dash just give it a good pull.

yeah FD.....i cant get the AC control panel off because first you need to remove the panel holding in the guages to get to the appropriate bolts.....and guess which panel is stuck and doesnt seem to want to come off? lol the guage panel ...... on a 15yo car im really afraid to pull too hard on anything in fear of cracking old brittle plastic and costing myself an arm and a leg in replacements.

I've got one in my fc. Well, not anymore. I got pissed off because it would work intermitently due to some half assed p/o wiring (gotta love the previous owners of your car.....fo sho) and ripped it out. It didn't fit anyway. Hack job. I'll have to bust out my thinking chair and handy dandy notebook and figure something out later.....

Bad thing is, if you pull too hard you may rip out some wires from the unit that you need, not just the car's harness. Reach back there if you can and try to unplug ****. I'm not familiar with the fd's interior but if there is a kick panel you can remove to access behind the radio, i'd go for it.
