I've been installing an alpine head unit from my old car and putting it into my fb but something strange occurred when I thought I had it all wired up. When I got all the wires connected and turned the car on, it was a success for about 30 seconds with the faceplate lighting up and sound pumping from the two speakers in the car, when suddenly it all shut off. I've checked both the cars fuses and the head unit fuses and they appear to be ok, what could be causing this problem??

I don't have any rear speakers, and those wires aren't touching anything so I know they can't be shorting out the radio...

did you check the fuse under the hood and under the dash?

 

Did you run a separate ground wire? If fuses are good I'd check that.

 

Try reseting the radio. Remove the face plate, and there should be a round button recessed into the radio. Push it with a pen or pencil to reset it. Check to make sure the wires are getting the proper voltage, yellow wire is 12v all the time, red wire is 12v on accessory. Try testing the plug while it's in the radio, and when it's not plugged in. If it gets proper voltage, and you plug it in and it gets a voltage drop, change grounds or rewire the wire that is getting the drop. You could also pull the radio out, and hook it directly to the battery to see it if is still works. You won't get any sound, but you will see that it lights up. If it gets proper voltage with the plug in the radio, and still doesn't work after the reset, I would suspect some sort of internal failure.

 

I'll definitely have to try resetting the radio, where is the fuse box under the hood located?
