head unit on the fd

Hey, i have recently bought a '93 base fd with ls1 conversion.

Today, i purchased an Alpine head unit CDA-9853 model.

While installing I followed the wiring diagram and installed the headunit, when i turn it on, no sound comes out of the speakers. I have switched back to the stock headunit and it has music playing, but not with the alpine. There is no short, as all of htem are wrapped very well with electric tape. Im wondering about a "factory amp" i've been hearing about... if anyone knmos if its true or not

Has anyone else come up with this problem? help will be MUCH appreciated. Thanks ALOT

Brian

EDIT: the only other possibility i can think of is the speakers not compatible with teh head unit? is that possible? when i look at the stock harnesses i can see 1 extra lead on each plug, but im not sure what they lead to.

Did you follow the information found in the stickies? You have to get a line level output converter that converts the signals leaving the headunit down for usage going into the stock amplifiers (5 total). You only need one adapter and you wire it between the car harness to the harness from the headunit. It is very simple but it tripped me up at first due to misunderstanding the posts on this topic.

Crutchfield sells the Schosche adapter which I feel is the best and many here have used in the past.

Once you have the part in-hand its pretty self-explainatory and takes very little time to setup.

Hope this helps,
~Kris

see if your alpine unit has a feature to turn the internal amp off.
