Question Has anyone on the forum successfully wrap an Fd?

Like the tile says has any forum member wrapped an fd yet? I would like your thoughts tips or any info you can provide along with some pics. I was thinking of getting my fd repainted but would be open to just getting it wrapped. But I am a little too scared to try this my self.

One of our locals here in Tampa had his FD professionally wrapped. Looks VERY nice actually. I can try and snap some pics next time I'm at his shop if you'd like. If you wanna do it right, it's quite expensive to do.

The one he has is a colored wrap, and looks great. And several of the high end benzes at the other shop I frequent (SL65 AMGs, Black Editions, etc) are wrapped in colored wrap as well.

Then you have the REALLY high end clear wraps, like XPEL Ultimate Paint Protection, which not only protects your paint, but actually self heals into the paint, making your swirl marks disappear. Pretty impressive. And for added protection, you can even apply C-Quartz FINEST Ceramic Coating on top of that. Check this out: Supraforums.com.

Thanks a bunch bud. I didn't even know they made a high end clear wrap that can protect paint. Downer the link doesn't work because of me not being a member to that forum. It asked me to sign in

I was talking with Phil (herblenny on the forum), and he has personal experience with both wrapping & dipping, and apparently is a bigger fan of dipping. I'd PM him and see if you can get his personal experience w/ both.

I'm interested to see some pics. I might be getting mine wrapped professionally, I just have to decide on a color. It looks tedious and time consuming for me to attempt.

I've done lots of reading on plastidip vs wrap. imho dip> wrap and heres why, in terms of cost dip is much much cheeper and you can DIY the dip and it will still look great. also with dip if you track your car (i do) and you damage the dip on a panel you can just redip vs a wrap where you have to remove the full panel.

Plastidip looks pretty sweet I might just give it a try. Now my question is can you spray it on brand new body panels with no type of paint them, just the factory primer like an original 99spec front bumper and or an oem fender? Or do they need to be painted. Also how about the original under coat that's ot the bottom of the car?I would really like a smoth finish without that bumpy wave look at the bottom.

I wrapped mine. its not THAT hard.

You can see more in my build thread. You're gonna need to sift through a few pages though. Heres where it starts:
https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread.../#post11003875

This was my first attempt ever and I only messed up on the hatch (because debris fell out of the weather stripping when i was tucking the vinyl in) and the front bumper. The front is most likely impossible to do in one piece. the rear I was able to do in one piece but I think that took me 4 hours........... the rest of the car isnt bad at all. I made the seam at the B pillar usually where over fenders end at.

vinyl wrap vs plasti-dip
I tried dipping my car last time i cared about it and it didnt come out all that great. It is definitely "easier" but the quality is also far less superior then Vinyl imo. The biggest thing that went wrong with my vinyl is I used a matte white (3m 3080p) which stained pretty easily. If you are going to use a gloss colored vinyl or anything other then matte white, i think vinyl is a great option.

Now if you're discouraged to try vinyl wrapping check out this video. Once I came across it, it made my life easier. Vinyl IS pretty forgiving when you see the magic that happens with a heat gun...
