Had the car polished, WOW!

3 weeks ago I brought home my 93 Black R1. I was told the body was in excellent condition but was pretty suprised when I finally saw the car.

I purchased it sight unseen and took the guys word for the condition of the car. It had hard water marks and generally looked like ****, but it was straight, VERY straight suprised me for being a unibody car with 137K on the odometer.

I ran some 3M stuff over it to get the water marks off and removed most of them, washed it and it looked pretty decent.

I tried to wax it and wasn't happy with the results, I SUCK at waxing a car and tried NXT, ended up putting too much on and leaving it sort of greasy.

A local guy does polishing and detailing work. He came over, washed it, clayed it, and polished it with Poorboys, first an aggressive, then a fine polish. Wiped it all down, waxed it and did the wheels. He masked everything off and did an incredible job, he spent about 5 hours on it, that was exterior only.

As far as I can tell, this is original 93 paint from the factory. He told me that it didn't look like it had been polished before and the paint still had a good amount of life in it, figuire polish it twice a year, 15 polishes, 7-8 years.

The paint was swirled pretty bad, oxidized, the whole bit. He did a safe polish and didn't remove all the swirls and I agreed with his decision to make it pretty much a 6 inch car, you need to get real close to see what is left of the swirls, and mostly they are now marks as most of them were polished out but not all of them.

I thought it better to be safe than sorry and I can always get them all removed if I want.

I believe in driving a car, I'm not a wash/wax person at all and my previous cars were taken care of but not hardcore. I had this done so that I could keep up with it, its still our daily driver but I'll keep it in the garage on rainy days now, especially after seeing what kind of water mark damage it had beforehand.

Here are some pics, check out both folders, the LS1 RX7 is the day I brought it home after 3m'ing it, and the other were taken today, the first non-raining day we had since it was polished.

Its stunning to me how it came out and the ease at which he did most of the work. Alot of it has to do with the quality of equipment so I ordered the same buffer he used, same wax, towels, etc and he walked me through how to care for it. I'll let him do the polishing but I'll use the buffer for applying more wax over the next few months. I wouldn't risk doing the polishing myself but now that I watched him wax it and can gauge the correct amounts I should be able to maintain it pretty good.

Here are the pics and if your in SE Michigan and interested I have the guys info, he came out to the house, did it all in the garage and did an incredible job for the money. If you hit Download while viewing you can see the original sized pic.

Awesome!!

Your car looks great polished. I was suprised when i saw the ls1 in there. Looks like a really clean swap. But still, its an RX7, there should be a rotary under that hood.

Talking

LT1-7

LOL Maybe its not a 7 unless it has Turbo's.

The engine bay is next. It still has the PCV system, or the mess ontop of the intake manifold, that will most likely go this weekend in favor of a breather and some other tying down and cleaning.

Get that detailed up and finish the interior.

Thanks for the compliments, its easily one of the best things I've done to a car. Was worth it to get someone else to get it setup for me and make it easy to care for.
