I'm interested in the flares when you are done with them. Let me know what the fronts will look like. Please let me know when they are available.. I am at bouman@direct.ca.

Hehe, I'm not copying or planning to market them - FG, sheet metal or other wise, but it's likely the same shop can duplicate the same - say just fab the flares in sheet metal and then ship to you (if not close) for your local shop to weld the flares in place.

Sorry for not clarifying, but I meant I'll sell my original FG parts after I'm finished with them.

Jay: We'll see if it's a good move after it's finished, hehe. Have butterflies thinking about it, as that it could turn out to be a very expensive experiment. For what work this shop says it has experience with, I think it'll come out fine. Anyways, you guys will hear it here first one way or another.

Sold my last set of wheels earlier this year, and needed to get a new set, so the cost of wheels was already factored into my budget. May be a little more, and will have to get the proper offset and width/etc.

Holding up from placing a firm order until I get the front flares in to do my measurement. Rears I'm pretty sure will be 18X11 +11ish with 295/30/18s (or 19X11 +11ish with 285/30/19s I suppose - if I plan on getting two sets, one for show and other for track). I'll get into more detail about picking sizes later when things progress.

I've got almost identical setup (edit - engine mods) to Max's, save for a ported engine - so I'm thinking I'll be about 350rwhp or there abouts. Should be ok, as long as I dont put 12" wide wheels with 335s hehe.

Only issue with fitting most any sideskirts to the flare equipped car is that the rear part of the side skirt would likely have to be modified a bit to fit the contour of the leading edge of the rear flare.

Really no big deal, but I'm already going into too much trouble/effort and really don't ANOTHER one off custom part to deal with. I, unlike Jim, want to finish my car in the forseeable future. The FEED side steps are probably the most likely candidate, but no hurry to get them (hurting bank account).

Oh, and I'll post better pics of the fuel door 'clearanced', mounted, in the next couple of days. My current pics do not show that well.

FYI, Pettit sells the 'clearanced' flares for the same price as the non.

Daniel,

If you are successfull with making the front and or rear flares in sheetmetal.. make some extra ones.. hehe.. send a set to me..

Are you sure you want 18x11 w/ 295/30s? Doesn't it not seem wide enough to fill the flare? Just wondering since I'm running 285s in the rear on 18x9.5. I know it's about the power issue versus size, just maybe want to get the right size right off the bat.

Man, I cant wait to see this project take form.. I'll be watching..

As long as I pick the proper offset, the wheels will fill out (extend up to) the flare's lip edge. I'm actually shooting for the face of the wheel to be inset roughly between 1/4 to 1/2" from the lip edge, instead of flush.

Given that the 18X12s on Pettit's car has an offset of +25, a 18X11 +11 will have essentially the same front spacing (w/o getting into boring math).

The view from the rear should be ok as well. RE Amem's recent blue widebody GT car actually sports 9.5" wide wheels with 265/35/18s. It does looks a bit funny from directly behind, and given my wider width it should be ok. When it's all said and done, I'll post pics then and see how it turns out.

Choosing a rear wheel width of 11" was for a few reasons:

- Overall tire diameter issue. The street tires I want to use is 295/30/18, and matches well with a 11" wide wheel, which has an overall diamter of 25.2" in the Conti Contact2s - less then 1/2" taller then stock. 295/30/18 is the widest I can go and not be off too much in overall diameter.

- allows a broader range of track tires I was interested in to be mounted. Many street legal race tires are available (18s) only in 225/40/18, 265/35/18, and 285/30/18 (plan on doing 265 front 285 rear for track tires)

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ilot+Sport+Cup

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....del=Ecsta+V700
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...del=Ecsta+V700

Both give a approved wheel width range of 10" - 11". The Pirelli P Zero Corsa street/track tires are available in even more (and wider) sizes, but I wanted to keep my options open.

- As that I don't have a 3-rotor in my car (yet hehe), or belong in a higher hp bracket, keeping it nothing wider then 11" (with corresponding tire sizes) should work well.

- The narrowest I was willing to go and feel comfortable that it would not look funny (too skinny) in back.

Anyways, this is just what I have been thinking about, and may change as it progresses. I do too much thinking about the 7, I need to get a life hehe.

Here's some more pics of the red one. The body is beautiful but the engine bay needs some work.

Ok, changed my mind again - Pettit flares are now for sale.

After having my chain yanked for the last few months by my contact in Japan - that was to get me the Little Garage flares - I gave up and fell into depression and said to hell with all - Apexi sideskirts and thats it.

I'm beginning to realize that I'm in my own catagory of analness (but still way short of the King of ****, Jim Lebreck himself) - there is really no other front fenders/flares I think will go with the Pettit flares besides the Little Garage. Nothing else, IMHO, matches the shape and proportions after both have been integrated/molded into the sheetmetal.

But then I saw these rear flares!

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=153446

Which looks like matches the FEED wide front fenders nicely. They both have the little flat edge that runs along the fender edge, and seem to be proportioned similarly. Not too crazy about that 'chunk' missing behind front wheels, but I don't think it's anything a good FG shop can't take care of/make it look normal again.

If I go this route, I will again try to have the rear flares made in sheetmetal, but will leave the front fenders FG. I'm more concerned about the rear, as that the flares will be integrated with the stock sheetmetal, and worried about cracking/etc as I spoke about earlier. I will likely leave the FEED front fenders FG, as that it just bolts on and not subject to the same problems as molding.

Also, as that it there are a few sources of the FEED fenders, the FEED parts should be much easier to get.

I saw that red car at the Supra meet in Houston last year. The rear wheels on that car are truly amazing.

If you mean the ones on the orange car - can't say. Don't even know who makes them or for how much. Trying to find out. I'd obviously sell it for less then what I will buy it for, of course.

Ice: I've got a few more pics, I'll post them as soon as I shrink them.

Carson: Yeah, its really the best FG job I've EVER seen (execution wise, anyways).

Quoted about $1000 for the rear, both sides, up to primer (meaning formed and welded in place).

Try here for a shop near you:

Who actually makes the rear flares is still open to debate:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=153446

The car is from Msport - but they never returned my email as to if it was available to order, or even if they make it. The flare's profile does not match anything I've seen from Panspeed (see other thread), so could be a) a new Panspeed flare, b) a custom flare, or c) a flare from some other company (Msport or otherwise). Thanks for everyone's input.

Thanks Flybye,

I've examined that picture already, and have come to the conclusion that the flare on the Msport car is not any in that Panspeed pic. The top two are FC parts, the third are flares for the FD front (which Chuck is now duplicating), and the bottom set extends too far down (to the rockers) - compared to the ones on the FD.

Pics from my other thread:

I'm not ruling out that they (on the Msport car) maybe Panspeeds, either modified or perhaps a new model.

Msports moved the site around - here is a direct link to the Msport car:

http://homepage3.nifty.com/wonder-wonder/wonder_013.htm

I've since figure out that F/B is front bumper, S/S is sideskirts, and R/B is rear bumper. Duh.

But they don't list the flares.... which tells me they don't make them, or they were a one off. Very very hard to tell in the pics on Msports site, but the front fenders are not stock as well (at least modified), and they don't list that either.

Can anybody tell me if the bottom flare (in Flybye's pic) is for the FD? Interested in seeing that mounted.

Damn, and I promised Rishie I'd place a firm order on wheels in the next couple days. Because choice of offset and width is dependent on the actual flare used, can't place an order hehe.

The search for the mysterious flare..........continues
You know, you just might have to accept the fact that it may be a custom job. I really like those flares, too. They give you just enough space to be able to fit something like a 295 comfortably in the back, and it doesn't disturb the body of the FD as much asd the Pettit flares.
