Question Getting FD repainted. Need opinions.

My FD is currently getting a rebuild and once its out, I'm planning on getting the car repainted. The car is currently vintage red and I'm not too fond of it. I'm torn between Titanium Grey Metallic, Brilliant Black, and Snow White Pearl Mica.

Any incites or opinions will make my choice much easier and will be appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

I picked Titanium Grey Metallic to answer the question which color is better IMO. I would leave it Vintage Red if it was my car, that is if you don't get all the underhood area painted, which is possible since the engine is out!

Titanium Grey Metallic if your going all the way $$$
Vintage Red if your not

You should get something in Candy......Like Candy Kobalt Blue, thats a pimp color. IMO if your going to get a new paint job always go aftermarket, unless you really like that stock color, but thats just me.

Mine is black with black interior, painted the wheels gunmetal and everyone say's it looks pretty awesome.

FD's look good in any color (except MB). I like black and yellow the best followed closely by silver and Innocent blue mica.

you can check out my pics if you want.

Thanks for your opinions, guys.

Zach McAfee- Money isn't really a big issue. I'm getting my car painted at a body shop in which my uncle owns. All I have to do is pay for the paint.

RX7-2JOCK- As a matter of fact, I was actually considering candy paint. One of my friends reccomended it to me and it still is much of a possibility.

Was that your car in the Seattle RX7meet_thebeginning movie? The one w/ a brake light out? I'm pretty sure it was. Your car looks sweet!

ZeroBanger- I've always loved black and it was my original intentions to buy one. But the Vintage Red came along and it was too good a deal to pass up. I'd love to see pics of your car.

sorry, forgot to post my sig, I have pics there.

BTW..I ended up with a black 94 RX7, I would have loved any RX7. I feel a bit lucky since there are not alot of black FD's (most are red and mb).

The only bad thing about the vintage red is the fact that EVERY rx7 is a Vintage Red RX7. Its actually a really nice color, specially with a black interior.

Keep in mind that black RX-7's are very mysterious. Think about it...everything is black. The tail lights are smoked, the mirrors, plastic pieces, door handles, etc. It really looks cool, specially at night. Just a thought. I debated about what color to paint mine (search for my s/n and the word 'paint'. You will see. I really like black and will repaint it black.

check out the link in my sig.

Well it depends if you are going to paint the engine bay *** well. If not, you should go w/ a red color. It would be weird to have a white car w/ a red engine bay.
If you are going to paint engine bay, I say go w/ the Titanium Grey.

I'm going through the process of repainting mine to the same color BB. I love the way silver highlights the curves on an FD. Unfortunately, I couldn't stomach the thought of $5-8K for a complete color change (I like my car but not that much!). So I'm doing BB w/o any bling bling except for the polished OZ mitos. I decided this afte I saw a blacked out Mustang: everything was blacked out, wheels, windows and it was intimidating. Sort of like Darth Vader personal transport.

I find that VR is a very common color, especially on my side of town. If my car was MB I would paint the car in a second. Absolute worse color for the FD IMO. My car is red w/ black leather. Pics are in my sig.

Your car looks great. Black FDs are bad ***.

I'd say if you plan on keeping your car pretty stock in appearance then shoot for the BB or the TGM. BB is good because you can't beat a clean black FD but the TGM is a nice color too. I personally don't like anything too metallic or "pearly" on a stock bodied (mild looking) car. Such as your candy blues, candy reds, etc. I don't think it looks right, just IMO though.

I'm guessing people here aren't big fans of Motego blue? I was thinking about buying one just because the color seemed somewhat unusual...figured it had to be better than green. I've never seen an MB RX-7 in person...anyone have any pics?

As for my opinion...WHITE w/ white pearl.

I like FD's in the lighter colors, white, silver, and yellow. Red is OK, but every one has a red sports car, black is great for the 10 minutes after you wash it, before it gets dusty, and I don't really care for MB.

I'm still debating on keeping it black, or going silver myself. Very tough decision.

To me, black is the ideal color for the FD. If you already have it black, why not keep it?

I am painting my FD myself right now so I can understand what you are going through. It is so much easier to keep your car the same color, But, If you are going to go all the way and do the engine compartment and all, I would change the color if you don't like it. I think it also sort of depends if you have a aftermarket front bumper, wing or side-skirts. I think some colors don't look so good with some body kits. But that is just my opnion. You should take a trip down to the local paint & auto supply store and look at some of their color chips. It may spark some new ideas. If you decide to go with a candy paint job make sure that who ever ends up spraying your car knows what they are doing. Maybe make sure your uncle shoots it himself. Candy can be tricky to shoot and a nightmare to color-match if you ever need to repair or repaint a portion of the car. What I decided to do was use a tri-coat system, Use the stock Chaste White as a basecoat, then shoot a clear blender with platinum pearl added, then finish it off with a regular clear coat.
Good Luck

Black does look awesome, and is cheaper since my car is already that color (won't be repainting the engine bay). It's a 93' though, so the paint is worn, and has lost its shine. I like silver, because it really adds to the lines of the car, and brings out the tail lights (which really attracted me to the FD in the first place, as far as looks go). Silver is a bit more distinguished too. I've decided to keep it black though, with a nice knightsports hood (with silver rain guards). Plus, fire shooting out of a black FD, just fits better.

Yeah, I love the look of the Spirit R color. Real classy.

I fell in love with black when I saw a Black FD over at the shop where my FD is getting its motor rebuilt. I loved the black on red look.

Yeah, after seeing a few Spirit R pics, I really started thinking about keeping it black. In fact, the other day I saw a nice black 350Z that was polished up, and look really nice. I think that is what did it for me.

I loved the black on red look.
That's what I'm thinking too. Black on red is awesome. My engine bay has red components, so I may match the interior too...or just keep it tan. That look has grown on me too. So I'm guessing you going black? I said silver before, but either is good.
