GReddy, HKS, A'PEXi, and Blitz make really good gauges, but the best would have to be DEFI.

VDO is a good budget gauge, and I dont even think Autometer should even be considered...

For ease of use and installation you have to pick Defi. For price, availability and selection you have to pick Autometer, but you lack in accuracy (IMHO anyway). I just wish the Defi Links came in a amber back light

DEFI by far. Be prepared to pay for it though. They are the perfect guage for me!..

The gauges do a start up, self test function. They sweep up to max limit, sweep down to min limit smoothly, then max limit, min limit incrementally (steps), all the while flashing the "peak hold" and "warning" LED's. It is pretty cool. It self tests the stepping motors, sensors and connections at start up every time, if there is any problems the red LED lets you know. If I could afford it I'd replace all my factory gauges with the Defi units. Peak hold and play back are pretty damn cool features, especially if you have to drop your car off at the valet or auto shop, you can tell what peaks they hit while on the "road test". 7k RPM road test after they replaced your windshield should tell you something. Ask me how I know.

Regards,
Frank

I like the defis alot also, but all those gadgets and stuff really aren't necessary. I recently drove a ZO6 and the dash cluster does the same thing as the defis when you turn on the car. Pretty cool stuff.

The sweeping of the guage needle is not for looks.
This is done as a self test because the gauges are "mechanical", to make sure everything is in working order.
My motorcycle also does it........if there is no sweep, then somethings broken, or not working.

So your not paying for looks, your actually paying for a better system.
