gauge cluster fix or change?

Ok I have about three maybe four clusters but the circuit boards aren't in good condition for my 84 gsl

I've tried swapping the good parts out of each one to make it work but they still don't

Heres the question
How hard is it to convert the mechanical gauges to electric such as speedometer cable?

and what clusters will somewhat fit into the 84? (semi-custom fit count too)
If you've retrofitted any other gauges please include pictures

and if not how hard would it be to convert to a gauge out of a newer car such as the rx8's (not including fitting it just getting them to work properly)

It likely wouldn't be feasible to try to convert a mechanical speedo to electric. Today's cars use a "stepper motor" style speedo which requires a speed sensor and a driver circuit to run the stepper. Not saying it's impossible, just would require some research.

EDIT:

Just did a little bit of research, found this site.....might be able to integrate one of their gauge steppers into your cluster, perhaps using your existing needle:

However you will need to graft a speed sensor of some kind to your tranny/ output shaft in order to provide a VSS signal

yea nvm i figured it out last night what i'm gonna do until I get a chance to really look into it

I'm just gonna get the second gen speedo cable to fix my speed
wire up the factory rpm gauge from scratch in an extra cluster i have
the rest can stay the same because the fuels the only other i really need since i have aftermarket gauges as well
