Fuel Door Latch Thing Broken... Fix?

The fuel door on my bro's car doesn't close. The latching thing that keeps it on is missing.
Can anyone reccomend a fix or at least a temp fix?
I don't know how I can put a new latch thing in.

I wonder if this fuel door for the Eclipse would fit...

Or this Spacro one..

it looks like more is broken than just that....
Are you talking about the little piston that contracts when you push the fuel door release? I had problems with that when it got cold because there's oil damping behind that piston that can cause it to get stuck while pushed into the hole until the fluid pushes it back out. If your's is stuck, try pumping the release handle several times to swish the fluid around. That will usually work. If its broken, then you'll have to find the parts for it.

I wish it were stuck. It's not there at all. I would buy a new piece, but I have no idea on how I can get in there to fix it.

BTW, those motorcycle fuel doors cost an arm and a leg. The eclipse and Sparco fuel doors don't fit unless you have a bodyshop mold and bondo around them. The Audi TT door I hear fits nicely but costs well over $400 bucks. Just get an oem replacement from Fritz.
