Fixed floor boards; how do I keep them from rusting again?

I just got done patching the holes in the floor board of my 86 RX7 (I cut out the rusted parts and welded in good metal).

How do I protect the new metal from rust?

A friend of mine recommended spraying on some Rustoleum (sp?) and then laying down some roofing tar.

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks,
Jason

Keep in mind tha por15 is dangerous ****. More toxics and heavy metals than having three mile island or the love canal down the street. Use with caution!!!!

There is stuff that they spray on aircraft. Now we are talking alumninum on that case. But I do not see why it would not work with steel.

It is called Zinc Chromate? Spelling is prob wrong on that last word. However, it is a nasty green color. But you see it on everything from a small two pass airplane to an airliner.

I had a couple of friends as well as the paint shop recommend that stuff to me.

I ended up getting "Chassis Saver UCP99 Truck/Auto underbody coating". The guy at the paint shop said it was the same stuff as POR15.

LPS makes "Zinc rich spray" which is finely powdered zinc in an Epoxy base. I've used it for outdoor steel, such as antenna towers and mounts. Works great. It comes in regular paint cans or spray bombs. Put it on then get it "Rino'd", and it will outlast the junk yard!
