Finalizing FD Audio System - need help please?

With the help of alot of folks here on this forum(thank you very much!), I am almost done with my new audio system. My priority is SQ, not SPL beyond being loud enough to listen with windows and roof open while driving.

Here is what I am getting(or have) so far:

- Rockford Fosgate RFX-8250 Platinum CD/Tuner/Pre-amp
- ESX Q1204 Amplifier
- Balanced Mini-Din cable connections for between pre and amp
- Focal 165KP2 6.5 component speaker set

If I put a subwoofer into a sealed sub 1 meter box, what sub should I use? My max power is 240w into 4 ohms but the amp is stable into 2 ohms at higher power.

Okay, please advise this re-noob as to his new audio system in his 93 Bose-removed, touring FD.

Thanks for any and all suggestions you can offer.

Take care,
merc

You've got that backwards. Get the sub, check its specs, then build or buy the appropriate size enclosure.

Since SQ is your goal, I'd recommend:

Illusion Audio: http://www.illusionaudio.com/illusion/Driversx.html

a/d/s: http://www.adst.com/products/mobile/rsub/r12s.asp

BTW, any reason you went with the Fosgate source unit? I would have picked a Nakamichi or Alpine.

That fosgate HU has the balanced output mini-DIN socket that can be used with the amp, it's crude, but it does the job pretty well.

After you've got the system all set-up, and funds allow for it, I'd suggest dumping the amp and HU, and get yourself some better equipment

I'd be wary of that ilusion audio stuff and a/d/s sub, since the illusion page is all in itallic ("HI! I'm cheap and I'm trying to stand out!") and the a/d/s doesn't give an RMS figure, only continous, which can mean two entirely different things, and it also doesn't say at what level of distortion

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...5de41906d0169a I've been recomended this sub by someone who's been doing ICE professionally for the past 12 years, it's also the one I'm going to be using

Thanks everyone for your links and suggestions.

I'll be modifying the box design to best fit the specs of the sub, however, I'm not going bigger than a single 8 or 10" so the box will be smaller than .7 cf.

BTW, any reason you went with the Fosgate source unit? I would have picked a Nakamichi or Alpine.
As mentioned, the Fosgate uses my mini-din balanced outputs for connection to my Amp. The Fosgate is also an OEM'd/rebadged Denon DCT, so it is supposed to have very good SQ. Finally, it is only $299 brand new.
