The stock door does not weigh that much, you might save 5-10lbs each. Not really worth it. Steel does a better job in crash protection too.. Oh and you can't beat the fit of the stock door.

Want fiberglass doors, buy a Corvette.

Jeff, hows that possible?! 5 to 10lbs? Those things feel like they weight a **** load. Doesnt it have some cross bar or something in the middle for side impacts?

And a mirror, motor for the power window, the window glass, tracks for the window glass, a speaker, the latch, the door handle and lock mechanism...

If you gutted a door and removed everything I listed above, how much do you think the shell would actually weigh? There's not going to be that big a difference with carbon fiber unless you're planning on living without door glass, speakers, and locks.

Importfan.com sells them and all other carbon fiber goodies. The CF are made by C-Wings (extreme dimension) I believed. As for the quality, I do not know. Looks good on pictures though. If anyone getting product from them, please post your result!

Exactly what Jim said. If you just weigh the shell of the door it isn't that heavy. Add in all the parts, and there are A LOT of parts in the door you'll find you don't save much weight with CF or fiberglass shells loaded with factory parts. If you don't want all the factory crap then take it out of the steel door and do an apples to apples comparision.

if you want fiberglass doors, they seem to be nicely built and very good price. www.7parts.com a pair of fbg doors for 800 bucks.

Note that there's no upper window track and weather seal, no door handle and lock, and no provisions for mounting the mirror. These are race-only parts.

The reason why the ones in Japan are so expensive, well the PANSPEED in perticular are they are an EXACT replica of the original door, means even if you want the glass and door panel to fit, they do. I have seen them in person.

I have seen some cheaper doors, but no window you can put in it, unless you epoxy it in. Also they dont have a place for the door handle or anything.

I probably will never get them due to the price, and my car is on the street a lot, but you can loose 2-3lbs just on the door panel alone, if your worried about weight. usually parts like these are for RACE CARS only, hints 5-10 lbs means a GREAT deal, when its just that much for your doors. Its called weight reduction, meaning they do it all over the car, they dont leave the car stock and just change the doors, come on.......

Fiberglass door is almost nothing as crash protection. The one in race cars have a cage behind it.

Exactly, 5-10 lbs might mean a lot for RACE CARS, but for the street it is pretty much pointless. As a percentage of the FDs weight, 5-10lbs per door is a joke.

If you want to strip the car to that level it might as well not have any wipers, heater, dash, etc. I'm guessing but I'd think you could get it down to 2200-2300lbs by just gutting everything you could possibly imagine, then save that extra 10-20lbs on the doors. If you have carpet in your car and you spend $$ on CF doors your pretty much wasting $$.

I think you would be pretty surprised of how much weight you can strip off a stock FD. Anyway yeah I agree for the most part, its a race car thing. The FDs I did see with them, except for a few RE-Amemiya ones, they didnt have carpet or even the orignal dash or anything anymore.. One of my buddies that has his own shop and races curcuit just about every weekend, doesnt have them, but he car is gutted, im sure he would say they are too much $$$$

I think some people would be surprised how little you really lose by gutting the car or replacing body panels with carbon fiber.

Brad Barber's gutted track car (no interior, no P/S, no A/C, no cats, no door glass, etc.) weighed ~2,500 lbs. he said, and Brad's not prone to exaggeration. One member (won't mention the name) claimed to be at 2,300-2,350, and someone just recently posted that their goal was 2,100 lbs. Good ******* luck.

I don't think most people understand what an accomplishment it is to get a car that weighed 2,800 lbs. stock down to 2,500 lbs. and still be able to drive it. At most, replacing all the body panels with carbon fiber might get you another 50-75 lbs. of weight savings, if that, and I'd like to see someone live with having to drive a car like that on the street.

I agree with Jim.. Ive heard before on this forum about people trying to save 10, 20, 50lbs.. Unless you are big time racer or something, its completely pointless.. Most of us on this forum are street drivers..

Like I said before, If you want to save weight.. Drive naked! or go on a diet and loose some weight.. I know most of us need to do that... including myself.

haha, go on a diet. the vast majority of the people in this country need that. i think that loosing weight is the most cost-effective mod anyone that is worried about how much their car weighs
