OK, I've had the FEED spoiler sitting in my room now for about 4 months and I just haven't gotten up the nerve to have it painted and installed sooo... help me out here.

Install it or sell it?

Which spoiler are you talking about? The aluminum GT one or fg one with cf center flap? Are there any others? What else is on your car (appearance & performance)?
There are a lot of variables to consider....

 

Its the one with the center flap. I also have a Mazdaspeed GTC bumper, and I just had the car repainted Vintage Red. I am also gonna buy the scoot CF hood and probably either get a set of Konig Imagines/ polish the stock wheels (until I can save up for a set of HRE 540R's .)

I think it would look ok. With everything on there it's gonna look very busy, but still on the tasteful side (my opinion). I'm not a fan of the scoot, but the CF does make it nicer

 

Sell it to me. I have a Veilside CF wing I'll trade you for.

 

Put it on I had my feed wing since January and just put it on 2 weeks ago.I also have the feed bumper,Scoot Cf hood.panspeed sideskirts and ab flug rear diffusers.It looks crazy...

I've seen that center CF on a VR FD. It's really sweet. It went well with a CF hood and sleek headlights.

That spoiler is the cleanest one for the fd in my humble opinion and if you decide not to keep it let me know how much you want for cause thats what I want for my car. Its very very clean in person but I will buy it if you dont want it anymore.

 

Hook it up. That's one of the better looking ones.

I used to be mad in love with that spoiler. But now, I think stock spoiler looks better. I think the price has something to do with it. It's personal preference. I still think it looks cool, but I think I'll stick to the stock spoiler.

The feed spoiler is prolly the nicest aftermarket deal. I'd like to know if it actually adds any downforce before i bought it... the stocker doesn't.

ptrhahn: Jeez, you like this mod too??? I was considering it about two years ago, so I asked the US FEED distributor via email if they had any statistical proof (e.g. wind tunnel data) that this spoiler actually created any downforce at the rear. His response was:

To answer your question about wind tunnel, no accessories company in the world are large enough to do tunnel testing. Mostly is because of the cost and accessibility of wind tunnel it self. ... As you can see they do not sell enough wings to warrant such testing. But there are alternative to wind tunnel testing, such as road test and engineering experience. This alone will usually put the product in ball park.

I accepted that response as perfectly rational, and think that the only proof that you can get from these tuners is that they have used these parts on cars used in competitive racing. So, some aero parts from FEED, RE Amemiya, Border, etc., by nature of the fact that they are/were used on JGTC cars, probably work. I do not know if this spoiler was ever used on a FEED racecar, so the only FD spoilers that I know provide downforce are the 99 spec OEM spoiler on the RZ model (according to Mazda wind tunnel tests), and those big *** wings you see on all the cars in the race series which allow them.

In that regard, the representative from FEED had the following aero advice for those of us who take our cars to the track:

Then you will need a front (canards) and rear wing, you will also need to get the front nose as low as possible so that not too much air can get underneath the car, second the bottom of the car needs to be as flat as possible so that the air does not create any turbulence as it flow to the back of the car and lift the rear up, then you'll need an adjustable rear wing. To get more down force you will need to give the wing more angle from horizontal. But remember when you have more wing the more drag you will have and the slower you will be down the straight. What you will need to do is test it on the track and play with how much angle to to run. I'm not sure on the level of driving ability but it takes a lot of experience to be able to tell. Because there are many factors involve in aerodynamics. Race team will spend many hours testing on the track and in wind tunnel, as you can see this is not an easy task. My recommendation is to see what people in your class are doing to the same type of cars. Most amateur or novice events you will not need to worry too much about aerodynamics because most beginner are not able to drive the car, to its potential, as is from the factory.

Good advice. I'm focusing on tightening the nut behind the wheel.
