FD stock non-bose cassette player is extremely quiet

My rx7 did not have a stereo system when I bought it but was originally a non-bose car. I bought the stock non-CD player cassette deck from the forum classifieds because I just wanted something stock-looking to fill the empty DIN hole. I plugged it into my stock wiring harness no problem, and it works, playing through all speakers. Problem is, it is extremely quiet. I have to turn it up all the way just to barely hear it. It's as if there is an amp missing or something. Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Thanks.

The cassette deck I received from the forum member was missing the antenna pigtail so I don't have the radio antenna functioning. So that's why I never checked the radio. Good question though. I wonder if there's an internal amp that could have failed. I wish I had another deck of some kind to swap out and check.

OK, just checked the radio. Of course it is just static but I found out that it is very quiet as well.

You may have bought a bad unit. Hard to say!

Yeah I think it must be the head unit because the only amp in the wiring diagram is for the center front and door speakers. So even if that was bad, my rear speakers should still be loud.
