shift **** Mazdaspeed vs. OEM RX8

I was wondering if the masses had an opinion on shift *****. I need to replace mine( falling apart in my hands) and have narrowed it down to a Mazdaspeed Shift **** vs. an OEM RX-8 Shift ****. Has anyone had any experiences with either of these?

I have the leather Mazdaspeed one, it's very big and heavy, makes shifts seem more like your actually performing mechanical work...I've tried out the Mazdaspeed carbon fiber **** -- it's the complete opposite, smallish and very light, makes for more of a snick shifting feel. The shifter felt great on the RX-8 I drove, but I've never felt the RX-8 **** on an FD.

^^ The mazdaspeed leather shift **** is only 10% bigger than stock. I had one but I got annoyed with it so I sold it after only using it for 2 days

I was considering buying the Mazdaspeed Shift **** which is made of Urethane for $70 brand new. Is this a good deal? I couldn't find an RX8 shift **** anywhere.

rx8 rotor shape **** is uncomfortable to me not really ergonomic to the hand. Have not tried mazda speed. I prefer the heavier ***** so it creates swinging hammer effect. inertia weight bassically throws itself in gear. just my 2 cents I mat be going towards the feed rubber one or rmagic

Sorry, I didn't, I tried it out on a friend's FD. PM CoolingMist and ask David where he got it.

I have the c/f mazdaspeed shiftknob I bought 4 years ago from Jason. I have an Rx8 also. Obviously the shifter is far superior in the Rx-8, but my preference in the **** is the Mazdaspeed. After 4 years and 80K miles the Mazdaspeed c/f **** is like brand new. Even the numbers on top have not faded.

in terms of style I think the angular style of the Rx-8 **** does not fit well with the FD's curvey feel. The mazdaspeed **** has a more flowing smoother look. Subtle I guess.

Just FYI...that's the European 5-speed shift **** (vs. the normal 6-speed one), but it is NOT illuminated. There was a thread about this a while back when Phil (Herblenny) bought a bunch of the illuminated 5-speed ones, and was selling 'em on the forum. AFAIK, it'll run ya like $300+ to get the 5-speed illuminated one from Mazda Japan or somethin. Or, just pay $90some, and skip the illumination.

$300 for a shifter ****? Geeze -- some people just have far too much money to burn.

I have the RX-8 **** on an RE-Amemiya short shifter, looks and feels perfect! Stock shifter makes the RX-8 **** look too high like the pic above

These ***** work in RX-7s as well as Miatas. I borrowed Gordon Monsen's titanium voodoo **** and fell in love with it. Nice and Heavy, and sits lower down than any of the cylindrical ***** out there. I took the RX-8 **** out of the FD and put in the FC in favor of the voodoo **** .

What's wrong with this?^^ It's almost the same as stock... mine sits as such, and I love it. Compared to the stocker, at least. But just to be fair, maybe I should try to Mazdaspeed one and compare. I love the aluminum rotor shape on the RX8 shifter though

Rich, that voodoo **** looks interesting. Although, I am not in the favor of too much bling Which one in particular did you have that you liked?

I have the RX8 **** in my FC. I like the rotary shape of it, and mine is the 6 speed version, I kinda want the 5 speed just so it can match my actual gears.

The RX8 shift **** is available with a 5 gear pattern on it. But I think it looks out of place. Too tall. I think the Mazdaspeed is better, and the shape is a lot better as well. I personally have a FEED shift **** and love it.
