Quick question. I'm installing new 6x9 speakers and im wondering if anyone else has tried it and could give me some tips with the brace fitments.

Also, which wire for the rear speaker is positive?

 

im quite positive 6x9's wont fit in the stock rear speaker brackets.
i tried to put some in that i had lying around in the back speaker places on my FD the other weekend.
i took the interior out, removed the bracket that held the stock speaker - pried the stock speaker out of the bracket with a screwdriver- went to mount the 6x9's in their place and guess what! they dont fit - they are too large..you would have to cut the stock bracket and bend it larger to accomodate the 6x9's even then im unsure if your interiour would go back in place with them in. (unless they had tiny magnets)
not sure what actual size the rear speakers are but 6x9 is too big.
also i seem to recall one wire will be a solid colour - the has two colours e.g green wire with a yellow line or whatever. the solid colour should be negative - the non solid colour positive *i think* someone will tell me im dumb if im wrong !

 

thanks for the info. I know the stock size speakers are 6x8 but I couldn't find any really good speaker with a broad frequency range so I bought the PIONEER TS-A6992R 6x9 which seems to be great.

I guess Im going to have to do some cutting this weekend to fit the speakers. Ill post pics of the outcomes. Im surprised no one else has managed to squeeze 6x9s in the back.

 

i got a piece of wood 3/4in thick. made a frame that fit the hole. bolted the wood pieces down to the stock braket holes and mounted 6x9's with ease :].

this was done on a bose set up which doesnt come with brackets.

 

I took the eay way out and cut out the Bose wave holes larger and placed my Boston Acoustics in those holes. Sounds great and covers the holes. I would also suggest a quick disconnect so you can pull out the cover if you need to move anything.....

 

from what i know ford and mazda have a really odd size for the rear which is 6x8 you can get some 5x7s to work. i believe jl audios 5x7 fit the 6x8 bracket.

 

I just put in 6x9's in my rear bose deck - just last weekend too! I went even easier and did ZERO cutting at all. I bottom mounted them so it's like a sandwich and is very secure - the way to go so look for this option. The hole is just right for a 6x9 but there may be a few gaps in the corners. Yes, the hole is smaller and doesn't expose all of the woofer from the top, but it looks great. The cover holds the weight well, which was a concern. Keep the bose plug and connect the wires - just yank out the power and ground feed for the bose amps. Then you can just unplug and remove if needed. I have pictures if you need them.

 

Ok this is prolly a really dumb question but i didn't think that we had rear speakers. Where are these at? I was going to put some in where the map holders are.

 

Models without the Bose system have 6x8's where the map pockets are...not all of them do though.
