Question problem-free bucket seats?

sorry if this has been asked before, but i searched as much as i could and i didn't get much information at all...

could you guys name the racing seats you know will fit on an FD without any door bashing or extreme modifying?

i know about the corbeaus, but there aren't any dealers where i live, so i was wondering if there were any alternatives...

thanks!!!

actually i think the SPG's and the Recaro seats from the JDM models were a little bit different.

SPG's

Spirit R Seats, i believe the RZ's came with the same seats, but in black.

They are slightly different. Plus the SPG's don't have a $4,000 price tag (direct from mazda)

I see where the difference is, but the top looks very similar, just the bottom where the SPG has holes for the seat belts.

Basically, the FD recaro's are Carbon Kevlar SPG's with the shoulder portion being slightly different, and with stock style seat rails. And the $4000 per seat price tag...LOL

yeah, not much different, just a little change in design and a slight price increase.

About the Recaro SPGs, whats the avg size for the people who use them? I am 6' and 178lbs, between 32 and 34 waist. Should I have any problems or comfort dislikes? Also, I cant really tell, but are they reclineable? Thanks

First off, there are two sizes, just regular and XL. The XL is 35mm wider than the regular, however i couldnt find how wide the regular is. You shouldnt have any problems with size.

And they arent reclinable, they're one piece racing seats. If you can get used to the fact that you'll be stuck in one position, you shouldn't have too many problems, maybe a slight discomfort every now and then, but not much.

i have Recaro SPG's .... they fit no problem .. in fact there's loads of room in terms of fitting them. Im 6ft 2" and around 188 pounds, they are a tight squeeze but they hold you incredibly well, even without a harness you feel glued to the seat.

I believe the equivelant Bride bucket seat also fits no problem.

Anyone else notice that the "tranny cover" on the RZ is different than ours? Look towards the rear bins, and notice that it looks like it has two pieces. Ours is just one long peice.

Steve,

How about getting us a few pics of the SPGs? Are you using model specific sliders/seat mounts?

Hi David

No problems .. i will take some pics tomorrow (its the middle of the night in the UK right now ) ... i only have the drivers seat in at the moment as the car is undergoing a little work ...... dori machine

the subframes are actually Bride .... i spend alot of time in Japan and the Bride subs came up at a reasonable price .. but yes they are model specific to the FD so no problems on fitment.

have to say in comparison to the Recaro "Sports" seats the SPG's are just fantastic. My biggest worry was that they would be uncomfortable on long journeys but that hasn't been the case

Steve,
You didn't like the Recaro Sports? What specifically was the problem with them?

pics as promised ..

please bear with me here .. the car is undergoing lots of work and as you can tell currently has no wheels, its very very dirty and looks a state

A couple of pics of the SPG .. as i said there's only one in there at the moment, will put the other in when i need to. The reason why i got rid of the Recaro sports is they didn't offer enough lateral support, i found the harness to be supporting me rather than the actual seats. Another problem was although i've not actually weighed them im pretty sure they are actually heavier than the standard seats. THe SPG on the other hand is light as a feather, really holds you and combined with a proper harness you ain't going anywhere

I have a spare Recaro sports seat .. passenger side .. well , my passenger side but your drivers side i guess !! .. needs a little tidying on the squab tho
