FD: Painted Interior Plastic Trim

Does anyone have pictures of their painted interior trim. I'm either going to paint mine with the dupli rubberized coating paint or some kind of black. I'm just not sure about how tacky I think gloss black would look.

Also, I am thinking about re-enforcing the door trim panels by fiberglassing the underside. Do ya'll think this would work?

Gloss black in the interior would look absolutely gross. I can't really think of any glossy applications in the interior since the days of steel dashes that were painted the body color. You want your interior to have the overall vibe of being plush and comfortable. You make it sporty through accents.

if you want gloss black and you have the older dash with the rubber coat you can just remove the rubber coat using some metho and a rag. but yeh it looks crap

I don't really want it gloss black. I'm wanting something different/original. I want to wrap the pieces in carbon fiber but that costs more than what I'm trying to spend right now.

I could remove the rubber covering from my 93' finish panels but the driver side panel and center console panel have been painted by the previous owner.

I think I'm going to just go with the dupli rubberized stuff. Does anyone have pics of panels done with this stuff. The original thread has some but not enough.

Gloss black interior plastics look great and so does carbon fiber if that is your thing. I would stay away from that rubberized stuff, it never worked out well for me.

Here's some old shots of mine:
https://www.rx7club.com/interior-exterior-audio-26/anyone-know-who-paints-dashes-here-168938/

Basically, still looks the same (minus the dust):

I wanted something that was still close to the stock black, but not stock. The metallic flakes only sparkle with bright light hitting it (like a flash). Otherwise, it just looks black.

You can paint the stuff for cheap and have decent results...the key is the prep!!!!
Years ago when I did, I used the interior paint from the eastwood co. It worked pretty good with minor prep.

would painting the gauge hood a gloss color make you get a bad glare on the windshield?

You will get 'some' glare. Whether it bothers you or not will be subjective. Mine is not glossy like Skich's and I get a little glare. But it's very light and doesn't cause a concern. With more gloss, I'm sure there will be more glare but even then it's still transparent on the window.

Anyone have any dry carbon or sanded looking carbon interiors. I think that would look gorgous not wet though.

This finish to be exact

I used some dupli truck bed liner on my 93's. Coverd all the chips, scratches & flakes perfectly.

It came out so well I even did the door plastics. Came out looking just like the 94's PLUS its super durable against wear now.

that would entail an overlay of some sort, not paint. you're better off searching outside of a "paint can" thread like this one
