FD door removal

I am ready to install my new 6 1/2 in the door of my FD, but I am having trouble removing the panel. the peice with the door latch and lock it not letting me remove it. How do I get this peice off? or do I just remove the grill to get to the speakers?

Did you pop the little flap in the door handle part and unscrew the screw hidden underneath?

We're talking about the drivers side, right? I haven't had to pull my passenger side yet, but I think there was a flap somewhere on the door for that one too.

I have removed the dish on the door handle... unsnapped all around the panel... but the centre part is still being held on... I removed all visible screws... how do I completely remove the panel? Do I have to unscrew something from behind the panel or just pull the panel off(held by pins)?

Dunno what to tell you-I pulled my door panel during a lunch break to replace the rubber seal on my window, I remember there being like 3-4 screws around the perimeter, and one screw under the little plate in the door release latch area. After that, i just had to pull the harnesses and wiggle it a bit, and the sucker came loose.

Are you talking about the passenger or driver side?

Passenger side:

It's gonna take alot to fit the 6 1/2 in there. I had to junk my old Speaker pods and make custom brackets.

I agree with the above post. You'll have to make custom mounds. I checked into it.

Pioneer thin mount 6 1/2 are a direct replacement. No cutting. That's what I use.

Panel comes off easier if you remove the little triangle opposite the mirror and other plastic piece opposite the outside door handle.

You have to pull the cup out to pull the panel (if the snaps on the bottom aren't broken). Carefully pry up the cup. Remove all the screws and the 2 pieces I listed above. Put the window down. Pull the bottom of the panel out towards you (3 snaps). Then pull the panel up. Unplug the mirrow and switch harness. That's it!
