When I finally decide to paint my FB, I might change the stock color.
What do I do about the black trim around the car? (I want to keep it).

Does it get removed, painted beneath, and then reinstalled?

Or

Does it just get taped off really well?

Sorry if its a stupid question, I don't know much about bodywork.

 

If you can take it off as you will undoubtedly get some paint on if you try to mask.

I took mine off

I dont think you can do a color change leaving it on.

On my bumpers, if you pay close attention you can spot gold under the dark gray paint in some edges

 

If you want to do it right, you should take it off but, it is possible too tape it off and do a good job.

 

It's really up to you. Are you doing a super detail kind of job that you want to be proud of or are you just trying to make the car look decent for as little effort as possible.

I, as I type this, have all moulding, both bumpers, both side mirrors, tail lights, all reflectors, and all seals off my car. I am deep into repainting my car. Many hours and weekends in front of me.
