Escort 8500 smartcord schematic

Just took apart my "smartcord" for my new escort 8500 radar detector.
(Best Buy has them one sale this week.)

Info for those of you doing hardwire installations.

Looking at the contacts with the wire at the bottom:

Yellow|Green|Red|Black

Red = fused +12V
Green = Ground
Yellow and Black are the wiring for the switch and the LEDs.

For a remote mute button put a 470 ohm resistor in series with a normally open pushbutton switch between the green and yellow wires.

For a remote alert LED, you must use a transistor to switch the LED. The simplest option would be to steal the PCB from the factory adapter.

I have a schematic for the adapter, but no scanner at the moment. PM me if anyone needs more details.

Hopefully this is useful to someone.

My plan is to hide the mute button and a power switch somewhere under the dash, and to put an alert LED somewhere in the factory instrument cluster, near the tach.

I'll post a pic someday when I get this done. Right now installing my alarm is priority #1.
