Door cup reinforcement?

Door cup reinforcement?
Has anyone made a reinforcement for the door cup. I broke mine last week. And, taking it out and taking a look at it, it is clearly inadequate to the task at hand.
It doesn't look to difficult to fabricate and L shaped aluminum brace that attaches to the cups attachement point to the door and floats along the side of the door cup, so that when you pull the door shut you're realling pulling against the aluminum and not the plastic.
Anybody?

Indeed, I've searched and found that most people have reinforced the passenger door handle. I only found one example of someone reinforcing the passenger door cup with some mettle strapping they bent around the cup and attaching it to the door attachment point.
I'll have to think on this some more. Any more ideas would be appreciated though.
