DIY HID retrofit!

The foreground limiter isn't suppose to redirect light into the distance. The reason for it is so your pupils do not dilate and then you are able to see further into the distance. The mini already has half of it hotspot directly under the cutoff and in the middle, the other half is reserved for the high beam.
Every projector has a lot of light directly in front of the vehicle the reason you don't see it on the fx-r is because there is a foreground limiter on it. Then we run into the problem with barely any foreground light which both the fx-r and mini won't have from foreground limiters. The only real way to get the perfect beam pattern/ intesity is to run an oem projector.
When I have time I will take apart my retro and show the foreground limiter on mine. Nothing changed in the output except the light in front of the vehicle.

Don't think I haven't thunk of using the minis... I can get them in large quantities for cheaper than nearly anyone out there. They just aren't something I would put my name behind. Same with the morimoto bulbs... the philips are leaps and bounds better. I'm running the mini's as fogs on my car though

its like a flashlight/spotlight I've got a massive lineup of projectors here, and I've spent a lot of time playing with all of them... wouldn't I do retrofits that take 1/30th of the time if they were just as good? Hell, if they were just as good, wouldn't sales of the other retrofit projectors tank, since these require no tools, skills, or work to install?

sorry I was gonna re-post under my name... didn't realize i was logged in on the other acct. The only ones I've seen are on a wall. Again, take them out into the real world in 3d and you end up with different results. I also haven't mentioned the high beam issues with the mini... the high beams on the mini's pretty much suck. fxr and mini-d2s are apples and kiwis, one is meant for ease of installation, one is meant for great lighting. At the end of the day, that's the tossup.

Wait, first of all you have a few things mixed up. Morimoto doesn't make the FXR. Second, their bulbs suck, I've got 3 sets here... 4300k, 5000k, and 6000k.... they all have odd streaks in the lighting pattern, the capsules are out of alignment with aiming so there are hot spots, dark spots, and the few sets that I have sent out already had 2 come back under warranty failed. These problems don't exist with the philips or orsam bubs, and all tested in the same projector for comparisons sake. Their digital ballasts however are actually really nice with extremely high durability to moisture, vibration, heat, and an extraordinarily long lifespan. Just because a company is good at making an electronic device, doesn't mean they are necessarily good at making xenon gas bulbs, engineering projector bowls, etc etc. Do they work? Yes. Are they the best, or even close to the OEM quality parts, absolutely not.

Poor taste for one vendor to be crapping on another.
Ill trade a trivial amount if light output to not have to cut my car, install angle brackets to shim hem and whatever else. And Not have chrome spray painted foam or whatever it is on the housings.
Matter of fact i did do that, the mini's light output is fantastic, light years ahead of stock lighting, and actually better then the factory hid lights in my other cars. I did mine a while ago and i believe the components got even better now.

just checked the site today, think I will be doing another set for myself using these new minis:
What makes the MH1 5.0 from TRS better than ever? more push and pull force from the solenoid, a machined aluminum 27mm Hex lock-ring, Integrated foreground limiter, further improved reflector bowl coating, Morimoto Logo cast into the body, blocked squirrel finders, and a revised front lens frame which removes the "halo" from the beam pattern.
Easily one of the most popular products we've ever come out with for their awesome ease of installation relative to the amount of performance they produce, its Mini Madness!
With their pre-installed clear lens and curved cutoff shield – the Mini H1's will literally perform on par with other popular full size projectors.
Their beam is wide, uniformly lit, and intense all the way to the edges. Their cutoff line is sharp and colorful, and their high beam pattern provides plenty of additional light.
These projectors are perfect for those seeking the easiest possible installation with little compromise in performance. Compared to the D2S version, the H1's are smaller and more widely applicable to H7, 9006, H11, 9007, H13 headlights.
Disassemble headlights, insert threaded mounting shaft of the Mini H1 through the pre-existing hole in the back of your reflector bucket, tighten the stack with the included hardware, and you're virtually done. (instructions available)
