Could you please take some up close pics of the painted plastics and also some pics with everything assembled in your car when you finish. Thanks again for sharing your work with us.

Up close shots with the camera I have is very tough, but I'll try. Once I get more paint in I'll complete the interior.

Ran out of VHT, and on top of that, my genius brother opened the door for a process server so now I have a speed camera ticket to deal with. (If they can't serve you its dismissed after 4 months, I was 3/4 of they way to safety)

well.. met up a buddy that owns an older audi
he painted his dash and door panels black (from tan)

i have to say.. up close, they looked oem. if he hadn't told me, i would have guess they came that way. i was poking at it and it felt good... although i was tempted to scrape my fingernail across it, lol

the cloth inserts however came out a little crunchy. thats expected
he used duplicolor

i guess if i had tan.. i would go this way

If the condition of the carpet is decent condition.. Can't the carpet simply be sprayed black? Would the color rub off with wet shoes?

It would wear off and the fabric paint causes the fibers on the cloth to feel a little crunchy

Those panels came out great! I hated my tan interior even though it was very clean,I lucked out months back at the junkyard, there was a silver base with mint black interior except for the seats. I got the headliner, door panels, bins,1/4 pieces and everything for $200.I couldn't believe it when he told me ahahh. The only thing i need is the carpet and its perfect.

I wanted to buy the whole car, but the junkyard didn't have the title for the car and they didnt want to be bothered with it.

didnt read the thread but is it safe to throw the door panels in the water? if i remember correctly the backing is some sort of hard foam? wouldnt that absorb water/ reduce strength of the door panel?

Exclamation cleaning

static... Get out of the tub, get outside. Get you a bin, like a small storage bin, and get a big bottle of Purple Magic, pour it in. Use the same bottle fill it halfway with water. I put the smaller parts in the bin to soak, then just dipped my brushes in the bin and scrubbed. Rinse, repeat, and then rub down with alcohol. It worked wonders for my panels.

Link for the degreaser.

They say they have it, I got mine from Sam's Club.

Idea of brush I used.

My brush was a bit bigger, but this one would work. They don't list them on the Advance Auto Parts site, but I am sure they have them in store. Prefer a stiff brush, with a handle. Not quite metal stiff, but fairly hard. That brush and a good used toothbrush and elbow grease. They'll come clean.

hey guys, this thread is really useful and full of good stuff. I'm going to be going through and deleted unnecessary comments and stuff so I can throw it into a sticky. So if your posts are deleted I'm sorry but just know that it's for the good of the section and forum.

I actually like the tan interior. The only downside is when it gets old, its hard to clean. One thing Iv'e always been interested in, is if somebody were to convert from a stock tan interior to a Peanut Butter interior with a special paint. What do you guys think?

So scratch the ultrasuede idea, I'm sticking with the dye. Maybe some day down the road I'll try that but its too much headache right now. Anyways, door speakers are coming Wednesday, so i don't think I'll be dyeing them until them because I'll be cutting holes for the tweeters. I'm hoping to have the car completely back together and drivable by Saturday so I can take it to the local car show.
