Damn, VR gallon of paint is $$$$

I was expecting maybe a hundred, possibly a little more but closer to $300!!!! WTF?????
I just got a front bumper. the body shop I had install the knightsport bumper years ago did a VERY CRAPPY JOB and after 10 year of ownership(almost - might as well) its time. My friend just sprayed his F-350(I helped). After seeing and working on it, I decided to take the plunge. We're painting my FD with stock VR 3 stage...supplies by themselves were a cool $500.00 guess its not that much considering I'm spraying the car.

I didnt wanna spray the car just the parts but the cost of a gallon vs quart and then the blending and hoping its ok...my friend said we just spend a few days prepping and spray the whole car(tiny after all). So thats the plan!

PICS To follow...look for it around the ne area! lol

Depending on how it comes out, and how much work it is vs $$$$ I may try to offer the service to you guys(I would have gone to a body shop but I dont know anyone other than my friend and well if I can learn and demand perfection, what would you do??? its not done till im absolutely happy with it!
We'll see in a week or so! Stay tuned...

Not really sure how much more that is than most paints, but be sure to post some pics when it's done.

its because red paint is more expensive than other paints because something about more pigments in them the black and white paints are the cheapest.

I spend a MINIMUM of $550 for paint/materials on any car i spray. Red is one of the most expensive. I spray my street bikes with diamond white pearl, $450 total for materials on a bike in that color. Gotta pay to spray. triple black, the color im doing my FD is cheap as hell. $180/gal for DBC, the reducer is $50/gal, primer is $80/gal, clear is $130/gal. this is still excluding wax/grease remover, filters, tack cloth, inline oil removers, and other MISC. Thats the cheapest by far. Try pricing the comp yellow mica. lol

PS if this is your first time,,, you might want to spray 10 or so honda civics for practice before you ruin your FD...

LOL! Nah, dont worry I'm not that stupid!!!! I'm having a friend of mine spray do it. I'm doing the sanding with his supervision(meaning I get the beer).
Since he was in the business we got pretty good stuff at cost almost...thats why I said that paint was expensive. By contrast, the other kid with us has a subie in silver. Try $50/quart.
I thought about going with BB but I'm not going that far first time out. Maybe next time if it works out nice.

Pics coming as soon as I get the date for the booth, well almost right after.

Try $1600, even with a 40% discount for mine.

Good luck with your paint job
