Custom sub enclosure. Tell me what you think.
I had this idea a while ago and finally got some pictures of it. It would be a direct replacement for the divider panel behind the seats above the storage bins. You can fit anything up to 2, 12" subs, or basically any set up you would want, single or double, flat or angled. I hadn't seen it done before so I figured I'd try. This is a rough copy and has not been totally completed (trimming edges). They are fiberglass and would be painted to match the exterior color. What do you think?

i'm eventually going to do some type of this. once i have it made and installed i will get pics of it. it will most likely be ported and will have the option to hook onto the little metal clip things on the rear stability bar
Yes it does need to be enclosed. If you mount them backwards it's already air tight. Or to mount them into the panel forwards I think I will make a sealed box that extends from the back. Nothing huge, maybe 6 inches or so.

Thanks for clearing that up. It really looks good. Post some pix when its all done.

You NEED to know the internal volume of the enclosure. Improperly matched subs will not sound right.

This makes no sense, but regardless of which way the subs are mounted, the answer is yes.

some people mount their subs with the magnets facing out. most people do it for show, but sometimes with the right configuration it sounds good.

Alright thanks. If the subs are mounted backwards would I need the same internal volume?

If you want an easy way to find out the internal volume, cover one of the sub openings with some paper (tape it on) and then fill it with rice. Measure the amount of rice used with a jug to find out how large it is.
And as a tip, filling it with wadding fools the subs into thinking the volume is 1/3 bigger
ie: a 10L box with wadding becomes effectively a 13L box

Its the stock divider and they are alpine 12s
The only thing that rattles are the clips on top so I am going to remove them and then attach the divider with with brackets from the back.
Its just a basic enclosure and I am not sure of the size. My battery is also inside the box inbetween the sub magnets.
It sounds good but I will do a little reworking to make it the best it can be.

Dayumn! i wanted to do that exact same setup. Do you have any blueprints for it? I wanted to make a fiberglass box that I could still clip in and remove it. Does the rear strut bar get in the way; it seemed like it would so I kinda forgot about it. How much that cost you? Im about to get a system in my car and need ideas
infinatebass, you use just enough to fill the box, but don't force in more just because you can - otherwise the effective box size will be SMALLER
This is a trick I have to use frequently, as I deal with ICE in classic minis, and you don't get much in the way of space for subs in these
