Cool Custom box for 1st gens

Hey what's up guys. I wanted to post up about the speaker box in my 1st gen. I know theres lots of us out there that want mad thumps cioming out our ride but theres no room. I've seen many people just cram some universal speaker boxes in the back and take up all the room and block the rear view out of the glass. I've seen some people make custom enclosures that fit within the storage boxes but have heard from others that they sound like crap. Being as into stereo imaging and system installs as I am I could tell such an enclosude would sound crappy by its available air space. So we finally came up with a custom box that sounds damn good!!!
After taking hours and I mean hours, not only measuring but fitting, trimming and then sealing, we finally have a great box for the audio extremists. Now the box in the pix completely replaces the storage boxes and the metal that surounds them, no cutting of metal was needed. The seats can still completely recline and no more room than the storage boxes took up is absorbed. Our prototype was made to hold two 12 inch woofers and a 4 inch port in the center. Because of the restricted air space in the box I must point out that it does sound better with either one 12 inch woofer or two 10 inch woofers. But two 12's just looks so damn cool. We are running the box with two 12 inch Hifonics Goliath XX 1612 model subwoofers, they are being powered by two Audiobahn A2200HCT amplifiers that are bridged and should be making about 800 watts RMS according to the manufacturer. So we have a total of 1600 watts RMS pushing two 12 inch subwoofers in a 1st gen. I am proud to say to all of you we cracked the windshield(it had a small crack but the bass made it spider web) on it with the doors and windows closed at about 80% maximum amplifier power while playing an IASCA approved sound test CD track. Now the setup is extreme, but it will be coming out of the car in the next week and replaced with something less potent, lower power amps and subs. The system that is in there now is meant for a buddies car so its all on loan right now. I will post up some of the first pix we took of the box in the car. If anyone wants the measurements so they can try it themselves send me a pm, I will be glad to share the setup to all rotary heads alike. Enjoy

ok, seems to be a problem, the site won't let me post my pix, it says they are to big. So let me post them on my homepage and I will put up the link later today. If anyone else has a custom setup for a RX7, any gen, lets see what you've got. I love RX7's and I enjoy doing power mods and customizing so lets share some build ups. Oh and I forgot to say what kind of car this was. It's a Black1984 GS with a GSL rear axle swap, it has a temporary 12A stock that we put in to move it around with but we will be putting in the 13b S5 6 port, half bridge that is intended for it. Due to funds we are stuck waiting to be able to buy the Holley carb we want to run on it. It should be done end of August, we'll post up on that to. Till then peace.

The pix are kinda crappy but you can see it. You can see in one of the photos how we used spray on faom sealer to make it as air tight as possible. It's the stuff you buy at a hardware store like Home Depot to seal around windows and stuff. This box was our first prototype so it's not the best looking but it is exactly what we wanted. It's trimmed to fit perfectly and we made sure to make it fit well to have as much internal air space as possible. Give me some feed back on what you think about it or what you might change if you did it yourself. If anyone wants to know the measurements let me know.

Man that box looks intense. the box we desinged had to serve one purpose, Leaveus with space. So the box we designed came out perfect to us, it only takes up the room of the stock storage boxes. That's all we were looking to do. Your box looks like it sounds great and sure looks nice but for me it would take up to much space and weigh down my car a little to much for daily driving.
One question. Is the sub that you have sitting in the rear of the car over the spare wheel well, is that box a removable one or is it fixed into the car in a more permanent way?

The big box in the spare tire well could be removed. A couple of brackets to be removed, then speaker wires. Maybe 20 minutes or so.
