Cost of decent paint job?

So I need to get painted this summer. Anyone know about cost on this? I know it depends on alot of things. Basically Im looking for probably middle of the road quality (not showuing it or anything), and I wont need engine bay or door jams painted. Currently it is stock blue. Enough info for an idea?

The cheapest quote I got was for about 1000, but that was with repairing dents. That also wasn't for a clearcoat paintjob.
If you can do the prep work yourself you can get it done for pretty cheap. Just don't get one of those $200 MAACO (sp?) jobs.

if it has very little rust then maaco would charg around 1100bucks but if you want just paint and nothing else then it would be around 800bucks. i hope this gives you some idea of what it would cost.

What condition is the body? Any rust? Any dings? Dents? Ripples? etc. These are some of the biggest factors in cost, basically prep time...more time=more money.

I have had around 8-10 cars painted in the past. Some were professionally done, some were down by friends. I had a friend paint one for the cost of paint ($200) and had one done that cost $4700. One thing you can count on is that you will get what you pay for!!!! It may look good at first, but over a short period of time you will see that it is true.

With all that said, a good basic paint job (depending on condition of the body) should run $3000+. At this level you will more than likely get someone who will stand behind their work with either a lifetime warranty or at least a 2 yr. one. You may find one a little cheaper but remember "you get what you pay for". If it is cheaper that means that they will rush the prep and the paint will chip faster or not be as smooth.

Also certain colors show flaws more than others. So some colors maybe a little cheaper than others, but then again changing your color will cost more!!!

I hope it helps...I had one car painted 3 times in 2 1/2 years and believe me a good paint job is worth saving up for!!!

Stay away from maaco, they don't hardly prep anything...6 months down the road it will be chipping off...

The general price for my car with a good quality clearcoat paint job and fixing dents, etc was a bit over 3000. I would much rather have that in performance parts, though, so I doubt I'll ever get it painted.

I GOOD paint job should run you about $5000+ EASY. There's no cap as to how much more, depending on how perfect you want it, what body work, if you're going to replace ALL the seals and gaskets (which you should), any custom color costs, etc.

Oh and if any place is gonna paint your car w/o removing all the panels and stripping them (no lights, signals etc), they're half-assing it, and it WILL chip and flake soon enough.

The guy I bought my FD from had it repainted about 6 years ago and it is an excellent paint job in my opinion. He said the cost was $2,000. I know I just posted these pics in the 3rd Gen Forum a few days ago but here's a pic or two:

FD looks very clean! I would say if you want a decent paint job, something that will last that you can drive with 2-3k. If your going for show car, weekend driver, something you will baby, look to spend around 5k. It all depends. As for maaco jobs, it depends on which one you go to. Some are horrible, some actually do a decent job for around 600. Espically if you do alot of the prep first, and have them paint. But I would only recommend this for a car your going to beat, like road racing, drifting. A couple guys I know with 240s have maaco jobs for their drift cars, turned out great, and have been lasting for the past 2 years quite well
