Cool FD Spoiler?

I'm a noob on here and I just joined because I am very close to buying a yellow jdm rx7. I'm very excited!

Anyway, the car has this huge spoiler and I wanted to know if it was some rare spoiler or is it just a hung-o-junk - since my plan would be to go stock.

Have fun watching your car get crushed. No way to legalize that thing for road use here in the US, sorry.

I'd check on the legality of that title. In the end, it won't matter...it's not legally titled, so if you get caught, you'll watch it go to the crusher. The truth is that there is no legal way to register a JDM FD in the states. They don't meet the EPA standards, are not DOT approved, and haven't met crash testing standards here in the US. I'd assume that the person who titled this car in FL did it by either knowing someone who could push the paperwork through illegally, or by taking the VIN off of one car and putting it on this one. Sorry - that's just the truth. If you're OK with that, then fine. But the truth of the matter is, that the car is technically illegal, in some way or another, to drive in the US, and if you get caught, they will impound and crush it.

And if you don't believe me, just do a quick search in the 3rd gen section for "importing"

Ask him straight up how it was titled. He's either going to lie to you, skirt around the issue, or straight up tell you about his magic "loophole". I would take this part very seriously, because as I said...no JDM FD here in the states is legal. The owner may say it's legal, and it might have papers that says it's legal...but in the end, something illegal was done to get those papers, plain and simple.

I'd make him sign a paper that states that he expressly said that the car was legal, and if anything happens based on the legality of the car (it gets impounded, you get a ticket, it gets crushed) that he is 100% responsible for any legal fees you encounter, AND he has to pay you back 100% of the cost of the car. Now - if it was TRULY legal, he wouldn't have any problem with that...if he says he's not willing to do that, then he either knows it's not legal, or is unsure himself...and I would WALK AWAY. Hell, I would even go as far as getting a professional witness to sign the same document saying they saw the two of you sign the agreement.

I can tell you one thing. it says according to the ebay page, that the car is a canadian import. In canada they let us import these cars, but the thing is, is that the car has to be assined a CANADIAN VIN#! this car is therefore not a saftied vehicle in canada if he hasnt getten a federal inspection, and done a few mods, including daytime running lights, and a general saftey. the thing is, is that Ive see a LOT of these cars with replaced odometers, and most imports have something wrong with them, thats probably why he doesnt have a safety, he cant even drive the thing!
I would be wherry, if he is saying he bought a lotus to replace his FD, it sounds very much like a sales lie.

hope that helps.

By law, signing a paper "warranty" like that only covers you for 1 year. Ideally you would want a contract or something from a lawyer to cover you for the life of the vehicle.

Yeah, definitely. And even if it was titled in Canada, it still wouldn't be legal here in the US...also something to think about

You can import a non US legal car as a show car if driven less than 5000 miles a year. Unless the law was changed since I read this a few years back.

Buy a wreck FD and swap out the VIN numbers!!!!!!!

hmmmm.......

I have an 06 RSX Type- S right now. (see avatar) It's modified. I love the RSX. Its fun to drive, its quick, it turns heads, but most of all, its a FUN car to drive..

I've only had the car for a year... but i'm kinda sick of the "look" of the car.. and I want something clean and simple.

I've always wanted to own an RX7.. and I thought why not get a nice rare one while I'm at it.. I found this yellow one thats RHD and blah blah blah.. anyway, I'm in love with it. I want to make it my sunday driver... as well as show car..
But after finding out that the RHD versions are ineligible for US import.. I'm kinda bummed out....

I also found out that Canada has a 15 year rule that if a car is over 15 years old.. you can import the hell out of it.. but in the US... its 25 years... so heres my question....

could I get a Canadian citizen to take title of the car... register it... plate the car... and then me just drive that sucker over the border and be scott free?

Or am I retarded?

That would be a dumb idea. Think about it...imagine the scenario where you get pulled over for not using your turn signal. Police comes up to you, and knows something is not right just because he has to walk to the passenger's side (normally) of your car to talk with you. He asks for license and registration...you pull out your license...hand them the registration...the names don't match, then you have to TRY to explain why. Long story short...car gets impounded and crushed.

There are plenty of perfectly legal FDs available for good prices. Just go the safe and legal route - you will be much better off in the long run.

Looking at the ebay listing, there are some things that raise my suspicion:
The Type R was not the fastest version ever made
It is definitely not the best looking FD, but that is opinion
I call BS on the Lotus line
Too many mods to list? BS! I see very few mods and I want to know what the mods are. I see no single turbo setup, no aftermarket ECU, no coil-over suspension, etc, etc? Where are all of these mods and and what are they?

^^ I agree. I think the guy's just building the car up by saying all that stuff.

But lets pretend that the car runs fine and all that **** is true.. I'm mostly worried about the importing of it and the hassle of the purchase.

Guys...you've done everything you can to help this dude. Let him ignore the good advice and face the penalties. He's insistent on purchasing this car.
