Question Convertible Top Froze

Help! I love my 'vert, and have a bit of knowledge about RX-7's in general, but I've never been much of a hands-on mechanic. Other than oil, spark plugs and things like that, I'm hopelessly lost! So please have patience with me....

My convertible top won't function. At all. It's in the down position and there's not even a whisper of sound when I try to activate it. To start with, I just need to get it up so I can drive without fear of getting the interior rain-soaked!

My manual says to "tighten the screw of the motor in order to free the motor clutch as shown below, then checck the convertible top linkage by operating it manually."

Well, there is no "shown below." Or on the next page or any of the following ones. And, if I am not mistaken, there are TWO motors, so I would have to tighten the screw on each of them, right?

Now, I have a vague idea of where those two motors are, but I have no idea how to get TO them.

Oh, and no, it's not the fuse. I know how to check that, at least!

So, a) how do I get to the motors?
b) How do I get the top up for the time being?
c) Any helpful hints or words of warning?
d) How do I check M-07 connector (check terminal) for voltage?

Thanks!

Before going too far, be sure the top is getting power.

When the ignition switch starts to wear out, you might notice that many things do not work... air cond, vent fan, radio... unless you first jiggle the key.

Would I expect JUST the convertible top to stop working? Everything else seems fine, including fog lights, electric windows, stereo, air conditioning, etc. But I will check in a minute and see if jiggling the key works. Thanks!

I need more help guys. I know not all of you have convertibles, but send an e-mail to your friends that do.

Well, no amount of jiggliing the key did any good (or bad to other components.)

Any more help????

Please???

If you guys can just tell me how to get the top UP to start with, that would be GREAT!

Alot of the time it's not the motors, it's the switch up in your cluster. Has anyone rebuilt one of these switches? I'm also having intermittent issues with mine and was going to try...

You may want to start a new topic, because I think this one pretty much died. LOL I hope you get replies, though!
