check out my stereo

I finally got done with my stereo. Check out the pics.

Im running 1 jl 10w0 in damonB's box with a RF 120. Another RF 120 runs the cheap mb quarts upfront.

I just got my pioneer DEH-p740mp mp3 deck and it is pretty cool, lots of features, including adjustable low-pass and high-pass crossovers built into the headunit. It takes about 5 seconds between mp3 tracks to read the id3 tags, but you get used to it.

Boostd7, what do you think about the 10" polk momo's, or what else would you recommend? I've got one of those same boxes from Damon, ~.75 cf. Cost for the sub <$250 internet price preferably

Thanks, Bob

Never heard a Momo sub, but have heard nothing but bad reviews. An Audiomobile EVO 10" would work perfect in that box. That's what I'd reccomend. Maybe an ImageDynamics IDQ10.

. Why the hell would you want to be "creative" with a sub? just get one that works who the hell cares if its JLAudio or MBQuart.

um, yeah.. no. This

As far as JL audio being the god of bass. eh. every other year one of the major manufacturers out does the rest in SPL, PPI for a while, then Kicker w/ their square comps, now JL w/ their W7... it always swaps around. But for SQ subs, it's a different story. JL W6 is on the low end of high quality SQ subs (they're nice, but eh) names like image dynamics, diamond, and focal are the first that come to mind.

As far as the originality and creativeness issue. and why would you be creative with a sub.... One of the reasons why I became an FD owner is becuase they're unique. there's not many out there, not too many people know about them. and they're in the upper echalon of import sport cars. My music tastes are the same way. I'm not just going to buy something because someone else has it. and I'm not going to buy something that "just works" I want to be happy with my selection, and having something that recreates music better than what most people have, and is pleasing to my ears. If I didn't have these kind of tastes, I'd be driving a civic with a bazooka tube in the back.

I mounted the sub crooked because of where the holes were on the sub. If i put it on straight, then it probaly would have split the wood at the top and bottom because it is such a tight fit.

If I wanted to be creative, then I would make my own sub, and tie-dye it, and then put neon windsheild wiper nozzels on it. But I did not want to be creative, so I went with what I know works; and it works pretty good. I am not an audiophile at all, I just wanted to hear the full range of my music, and this does a great job of that. Going with a $200+ sub would be overkill for my application.

alaskan: be careful to get a sub that has a small enough mounting depth for that box, my 10w0 with a small magnet barely fit. Because of the shape of the box, you have to look at the mounting depth, and the width of the magnet. I could have got a w6 at the same price, but I was afraid it would not fit. good luck

Thanks Lenny, I'm a little worried about the mounting depth too but not too much because if I get a sub that's too deep I can make a ring out of wood to extend the sub out a little and use filler to make it flush and smooth.

Does anyone have experience with the Polk Momo sub's http://www.polkmomo.com/mm100.html, SQ is more important than SPL for me. I'll check out the Image Dynamics too.

Look at the Adire Shiva (www.adireaudio.com) it's a fantastic sub and very affordable. I also like the Image Dynamic IDQ's, the A/D/S 312.2 rs, the Diamond Mac Daddy. Any of these will be great SQ subs... but for the money a Shiva simply cannot be beat.

Because it's my car! There's hundreds of subs out there that cost less than, and sound better than JL stuff. So why would YOU not want to spend the time doing research and find out about one of them?

Jim's right, Shiva's are great for the money. But gawd, they're just so ugly! Straight outta 1970. The others he mentioned are good too. But I still say the best 10" sub for under $200 period, is the Audiomobile EVO.

I have a 10" JL W3 and I'm not really too impressed... SQ isn't nearly as good as an Image Dynamics IDQ10.

I agree totally. I've never heard a SQ JL sub. Their range of octave is about 1/2 what most other 'good' subs I've heard are.

Looks good; the amp just looks made to fit there!

I would have done the same thing with the mounting holes, but you should be safe in turning it as well as long as you predrill.
