Center Speaker Squeal

Has anyone experienced this problem. If so, any suggested fixes (short of disposing of the Bose system entirely)? I have a '93 Touring with the Bose stereo.

It started last night. Once the system has been on for about 1-2 minutes the center front speaker starts a high pitched squeal. It sounds like steel fingernails on a chalk board. It's not continuous, but almost. It occurs whether the CD is playing or the radio, so it seems to be associated with the speaker or the amp.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

It is most likely the AMP - which has (or will shortly) destroyed the speaker, Replace BOTH with good ones - You can get Good Used Bose center amps for $35 or so, or a new one from the dealer for about 4-5x as much, The centerl amp is mounted in the center console next to the glove box and is accessable after removing the glove box (you don't have to remove the console)
Alpine makes a MUCH better Center chanel Speaker (SPS-0519) that will fit in the stock location w/ a home made adapter like this one:

Thanks, Mahjik. I used those guys to fix my radio. They got it wrong the first time, but stood behind their work. They even paid for all shipping for the re-do.

maxpesce, I'll disconnect the speaker prior to it being blown (if it isn't already) and check into the Alpine. Thanks.

The bose system has the same type of center speaker setup... at least that's what my diagrams tell me. You'll have to look at the center channel amp, too.
