Center channel speaker static sometimes

Hey, here's the problem. Sometimes my center channel speaker has static, kinda sounds like it's blown. But it's only sometimes. I know it's not the radio, because it used to happen with the stock Bose unit. Now it still does it occasionally with my Kenwood CD. It used to happen only every now and then, but it is getting a little more frequent here lately (could be the cold moving in).

My question is, is it the speaker or the channel in the amp? Seems like if it was just the speaker, it'd sound like that all the time. And if it is the amp, which amp runs the center channel, and where is it? Also, I assume that center grill just pops out if I was to change the speaker?

Thanks.

Most likely it's the center channel amp. The center channel amp is a small aluminum colored box on the firewall behind the glovebox. Remove the glovebox and you'll see it just to the left.

The grill will pop out easily if you want to inspect the speaker.

Cool, thanks. That makes sense why it's the only one doing it. Wasn't sure if it had it's own amp, or was run off one of the side speakers amps.

Here's a question...what size is the center channel speaker? I'm doing a 5.1 system and will need to know. I've got the the sub box and amp rack done, front and rear speakers are next then, followed by the double-din monitor and center speaker. Any jump I can get would be good.

I remember a while back, myself and some friends were talking about this speaker. It's an odd size and I don't think you can get an aftermarket one the same. You would have to get something close and do a little modding.

If it's not the amp, check the connections on the speaker and the amp. Loose connection can cause the problem.

Does the grille come off? I saw someone said it does, but I can't get mine off. Don't want to pry too hard and f*** up the dash. If you know what size, please let me know.

Yeah, it comes off. You can use a pocket screwdriver and pry on the corners. If I remember tomorrow, will measure and let you know.
