cd player wont power on (peoples lives at stake)
the problem.....
got an aftermarket cd player, pioneer deh-p6600, which i had wired into 2 previous vehicles already with no problem at all. hook it up in the rx7, of course it wont power on.
so when going to hook it up in the rx7 (1988 N/A GXL) , i do the smart thing and order the wiring harness (from scosche, big mistake) and as you can guess the thing doesnt even come close to fitting any of the connectors... so rather than waste $25 more dollars and another week of waiting for a different harness to come in, i cut the factory ones.
then using the wiring diagram provided in the FC FAQ sticky thread, in conjunction with the InstallDR.com wiring diagram (they both said the same thing, so i trusted they were accurate). i wired up my cd player. turn on the key, nothing... start the car, nothing. turned it back off, made sure everything was tight, double/even triple checked every wire, tried again. nothing... then i quit (after 3 hours of frustration)...
the next day, asked my buddy, he said it was probably grounded wrong, and to hook the ground up to the - on the battery. so i ran a wire from the battery - terminal, just around the outside of the car for test purposes, hooked it up the cd player ground, plugged the wires into the cd player and it started smoking like a fire instantly.
safe to say im not listenin to music any time soon, and im gonna go ahead and guess i fried my cd player, too.
im ready to ape and start killing random objects lol
... oh yeah, what a wonderful day.

You got something hooked up wrong. Get a volt meter, or even a test light and start checking your wires. Find the constant power wire, and the keyed power wire. On the CD player, the constand power should be red, and the keyed should be yellow. Then ground the black wire to somewhere metal in the car that provides a good ground.
Also check your fuses if you don't get power to the radio. Hard to diagnose wiring problems over the internet, but you start checking your powers and grounds.
